Women are not better drivers!

The proof is in the number of insurance claims made where woman are found to have lower numbers of accidents

That's all very well but the worst drivers I know are all female.

The problem is men, generally are more dangerous on the road because they like to drive faster and think they are good drivers when some are not.

Women make more rookie mistakes and "minor" accidents which don't need insurance claims but pay for it instead.

The problem is insurance statistcs only shows THOSE WHO CLAIM, it say's NOTHING about the actual facts. Said friends sister;

My friend's sister very recently, a few weeks ago got banned from driving for a year and a £75.00 fine for drinking over the limit and refusing(unable, yeah right) to give a breathaliser sample).

- Constantly drives near empty because she can't afford the petrol and will often fill up with 50p just to get home (small island remember).
- Has had at least 6 fairly minor accidents, bursting a tyre, body damage, hitting other people
- Once did not pull over for police because she thought the lights/siren was broken and didn't realise they were trying to get her attention because she was driving with no lights on at night.
- Speeds unaware of her surroundings.
- Blocks her rear view with clothes.
- Blares music you can hear 100m down the road.
- I Often see a bottle of vodka in the passenger seat.
- Took out a loan car of a car she rendered unable to drive without knowing that she was taking out a loan car, signed documents and everything over her parents car.
- Damaged that car.
- Went around a round about and lost control and hit the outside bursting the tyre, damaged the alloy, suspension and that area related.
- Tried to u-turn on a main road in traffic.

Also trying to drive the car now apparently according to my friend is difficult, no doubt she can't change gears properly either.

Not once did she claim insurance or have it claimed against her.
She got it all paid for her.

Hopefully that conviction will hike her insurance prices high because she shouldn't be on the road AT ALL.

Also on another note, I've kept a mental track of people who reverse out onto main road from a side road.

Women - 9 / Men - 1.

Whilst I agree that men are not necessarily better drivers than women, though we can judge the front of our cars distance from the road markings at a junction a hell of a lot better, I do wonder what would be said if a company offered insurance to men only cause we were better at something than women?

Whenever i see someone hesitating at a roundabout, not using their indicator to leave a roundabout etc 9/10 times it is a woman at the wheel! I

You sound like a very good driver, counting women at roundabouts.

Here we go, this will turn into a we are better drivers then them thread....... ;)

18 year old male - Something stupidly fast from the East.
18 year old female - Ford Ka, 107,C2 or something similarly cutsie.

More male drivers, men drive longer distances therefore increased risk (think lorry drivers vs school run mum) younger blokes tend to be MUCH more immature behind the wheel than young lasses and end up writing off their cars. Men drive more expensive/powerful cars in general. When men make claims the expenses are very high. By contrast apparently women have more minor accidents/prangs because they're retarded and can't park etc to save their life.

HOWEVER, despite what statistics say it's still discrimination. What next? Asians get charged more?

Also lets not forget women inadvertently cause accidents because of their appalling driving. Driving too slowly is a classic, evoking anger in other drivers and attempts to overtake them. The roundabout is another classic, they'll wait for a gap, go for it and slam on the breaks as they change their mind. I've also noticed with girls my age is although they're not bad drivers by definition, they have no sense of awareness. They'll drive too fast on icy roads, too close to the car in front, and can't park it to save their life.

And I believe Sheilas Wheels actually quoted me about £2000 for my insurance last year, hardly cheap. I eventually went with the AA, who quoted for around £400.

Those Sheilas aren't as fantastic as they make out!

Ouch, wow, what for and what age?
I guess they figured out it was maybe a bad idea.

Age 23, driving a little T reg Fiesta, and I actually have an advanced driving course under my belt. I imagine they probably quoted me loads because the car's kept on the street etc. (and I don't exactly live in the safest of areas)

Don't even get me started on Norwich Union...quote me happy my ****!

So why do Sheilas Wheels and such companies discriminate against men by giving women much better deals on car insurance?

Because insurance premiums are based on risk and over time they have found that in general women's claims cost them less than men's, and so women drivers are on average less of a risk to insure.

There is no proof that women are better drivers merely a perception because they tend to drive slower, however driving slowly does not make you a better driver.

The proof is that insurance companies have found that the claims made by women cost them less than the claims made by men. Indeed driving slowly does not necessarily make you a better driver. But a crash at slow speed is generally a lot cheaper than a crash at high speed. An insurance company would rather pay out for 2 or 3 minor bumbs in a corsa, than for someone writing off an expensive car.

Whenever i see someone hesitating at a roundabout, not using their indicator to leave a roundabout etc 9/10 times it is a woman at the wheel! I have also seen women doing their hair in the rear view mirror whilst driving, again hardly a "safe practice". So why exactly are they viewed as better drivers by insurance companies?

Again, they aren't viewed as better drivers, just as less of a risk in terms of the value of the claims they make.

Oh wow, so its "discrimination" now?

Discrimination is the PERFECT definition of what it is.

treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit

... purely because it is difficult, if not impossible, to say that any given (for example) 17 year old would be less likely to crash in an M3 than his mates. Thus the insurance company put him, his mates and every other 17 year old in the same risk bracket.

Alright, 24 male with a mustang and mines cheaper. 1.7k.
Infact only place that would insure me below 3k is adrian flux, everywhere else said I had to be 30 (THIRTY YEARS OLD!) or quoted 3k.

I told them to literally go stick it and none would meet adrian flux's price, not even local insurance companies.
