Well...I was made redundant like many others not so long ago (Back in October for me)...So since then I've been trying to find work.

Then! I came across a job my friend kindly pointed out for me...So along came an interview (a weird one at that...), then I get told to let them know how I feel...So I kindly take them up on the offer :)

I get a lovely letter, saying welcome aboard etc, coupled with a medical survey...O.K I thought, filled it in, sent it back.

Couple of days later, I get an email asking me about how bad my tinnitus is and if my fainting has stopped etc :(

Knew it was too good to be true!

It's just annoying the fact they didn't ask me any of these questions in the interview....it makes no sense.

For the record, It's an audio company that manufactures loud speakers...So testing is involved as well....

Suppose it better than me lying to them and them finding out further down the line.

Pretty fundamental problem for that kind of job I would have thought.

Indeed...However I stated I've had a hearing test which involved detecting high/low pitched frequencies...And I aced it so to speak...Even with the ringing.

Have they actually said that you're not getting the job?

Not yet...But they have hinted 'it's an important part of the job to be able to hear the defects..."...So me saying there is a constant ringing in my ears isn't going to help my case much :)

I've got tinnitus but I passed a hearing test 100% with Battle of Britain going on over head.

Haven't had any instance where I can't hear something anyone else could so far :>

No, but don't assume the worst until they tell you.

:)

I always thought the milder level tinnitus only really came into play when in a low noise environment any way, so you hear the ringing/etc when it should all be silent?

lol, sorry, I just find it funny that you applied for a job which is testing loud speakers etc, and you have tinnitus and expect it not to effect anything!

Likewise on the test :)

Good to know it doesn't effect you're daily job though.

I get like that sometimes sadly...They have emailed me back anyway, and said to carry on as normal (So start this Monday) and see how thing's go.

True I guess...But I can hear it if I want to type of thing....I get people going "Are you're ears still ringing??"....Well yes, they are now that you just pointed it out again :p

I have a lot of sympathy for you, I can't imagine how bad tinnitus must be to live with.

Hopefully this isn't sarcasm ;) But yes, it can be very annoying....particularly when trying to sleep.

For comparison....

What I find funny is you're assumption.

The job is assembling loud speaker's at first, then going into the testing phase.

I have tinnitus, I've passed a medical test and got 100% in that (Which has similar noises to which I hear constantly) so hey.

My tinnitus is not bad, I forget about it half the time, so I wasn't 'expecting' it to be an issue, because it isn't as far as I'm aware.

I have sympathy for delv because he needs to get some skills at L4D :D:D

In all seriousness dude, didn't know you have titinus(;)) I don't know if I could cope with that all the time! Good luck in getting a new job and I hope things pan out well for you!!

Son of a....I play just fine thank you! ;)

See now...titinus would be alrite....going by the name anyway! But cheers man, hopefully things go okay in the next month :)

I've got Tinnitus as well, really annoying when the room is silent.

Hehe, yep :)

Well...I received an email back from the place.

Basically, we are going to see how everything goes in the first month, as they should be able to tell if it effects my work by that point, then see what happens at the end of the probationary period, which is 6 months.
