I think the only likely bows and arrows you'll see are from the native american tribes

Nah, platoon fire!

Im still trying to get the hang of Naval battles in the demo, they're hard work.

This thread scares me! One moment its about the demo, the next it's Richdog and Biohazard having a war of their own! I thought I was in GD for a second there :D

I personally liked the ship battles, but didnt like the land part of it. How come when selecting all your troops and clicking the "move" button they all seem to move to random places rather than stay in formation! If you drag out a position for them they move together, if not they run about randomly it seems.

The game looks great but as far as gameplay goes, I can't see it being as good as it's predecessors as pretty much every unit will have ranged attacks which will slow gameplay and mean people will be aprehensive to charge their units into hand-to-hand as much as the other games. Arrows are much cooler than shots too..

Yep thats exactly why I didnt like it. Maybe it was just the demo, but I prefer large battles with masses of people crashing into each other! This one you just stand back and fire a lot of the time and melee attacks are just suicide!

ah but you see, you can use lesser units to engage the enemy elite muskets in hand to hand, thus preventing them from firing/moving, while you move your gunners in closer, ready to fire into them. You can then use your cavalry to flank and cause a mass panic among the enemy :D

The predominance of ranged combat isnt really a game issue though, its merely a personal like/dislike of a particular era. Obviously people have different eras of combat that they particularly like. For instance, I really love the Napoleonic, American Civil war and World War 2 eras of warfare, but I am not so keen on the Roman, Anglo-Saxon or English Civil War eras. Just depends what kind of timeline you are into.

Great demo I think.

I'm really enjoying the land battles. I had some American dragoons charge 2 columns of my British line infantry, i put them into square formation pronto and the dragoons did a u-turn...wicked!

Its showing as in stock on one of the popular internet shops.

Looks like they will be shipping it out for the 3rd if not a day beffore.

Also just checked, steam wont have it until the 4th. So its more expensive, a day late and no box on steam :P.

Finally got the POS steam to install after a reformat. Can't wait for this. Total War is my favourite series, and Medieval Total War is my favourite game of all time.

I love the Total war series, it's only drawback is that you have to be in 'for the long run' when you switch on, you can't just do 20 minutes or you won't achieve anything in a campaign, gotta be in 3/4 hour spells.

Think I expect too much. Land battles just seem a bit stale, and not much different to the battles in the late period on M2TW.

Sea battles are good, I enjoy the slow paced tactics of them.

Graphics aren't much better than M2TW but still good.
