**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

can you explain the kane and lynch fiasco ?

The head reviewer was apparently fired because he wouldn't give Kane and Lynch a higher score than he did, it's believed Edios said something along the lines of do it or we will pull our advertisements. He refused and therefore got fired by management leading to the a lot of the team leaving last year.

Of course it's never been confirmed it actually happened but thats what is believed to have taken place.

metacritic and Gamerankings are useful to get the general vibe for a game. However, I never take one or two sites reviews as gospel. I decide through what users say on forums as well as the overall opinion of the gaming media. Plus, it helps to research what the actual game is about and if it suits you.

For Empire, I'm expecting the usual bugs here and there, dodgy AI occasionally but I'm still buying it :) Always been the way with all the Total War games, its one franchise I know for certain I'm on to a winner...can't wait til next week :D

I'd be interested in playing online with you guys once i get the hang of it. if anyone is up for it?

I'd be up for that, it would be interesting to see how the multiplayer works. However after reading the review on eurogamer, it sounds like the multiplayer aspect is only you Vs. me in head to head....hopefully i read it wrong and you can co-op as such and conquer the map together, rather than against each other

so just checking my order on a channel island based shop and it now says "In stock | Usually dispatched within 24 hours" so wonder if they will actualy get it to my door on the official release day.

and tbh seeing as every little help stores have been selling it since friday and you can only activate it on when steam says so, id think they can for a change.

I think on release it is just head to head on the battlefield. They are planning to release a head to head on the campaign map, no word on if AI will be present in it yet but hopefully a little bit down the line they will introduce full on multiplayer campaign games ala Civilization IV multiplayer.

If not in Empire then hopefully in the next total war game, it is the most logical next step, it has been for the most logical move for a while now :P.

Taken from an AAR type post on the TW forums:

The first row of my troops deliver a devastating volley from upgraded muskets, sending many of the Hungarians falling.
But it is not enough.

They dont break and continue running at my line, safe in the knowledge that I must reload.

Now is the time.

The front row of my infantry kneel to reload.
The second rank fire a devastating volley.

The second row kneel to reload and the third brings its guns to bear.

The Hungarians panic.

This line firing drill allows my men to fire three volleys in the time it takes for them to load and fire one.

So it looks like you can research "Line Firing Drill" to make ur men kneel so the row behind them can fire. Nice :) Cant wait for this game!

is this series of games a Crysis like game? by that i mean Very hard to max out?

i'm hoping to max it out at 1900x1200 :D

thanks ozzie that's good news my pc is slightly faster than yours so should be good to go!

kinda find it sad when people like you with rigs like that feel the need to post such things.

o and appears to be running fione maxed out at 1920x1200 for me as well but who knows when there moer units on screen. Especialy ships.

Re-ran the demo yesterday. Maxed out EVERYTHING with my rig at 1900*1200...ran lovely and smooth. The problem was adaptive AA. I switched this off in the catalyst control panel, and not only did everything run smoothly, but it also removed the stupid blue dots I was seeing on buildings. Reassuring given the final game will play better anyway. Not sure if it has been said on here, but ATI people should do this!

Found out about it at http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/43317

Edit: The naval battles are super smooth whatever I do :)

Edit: Sig made smaller :). Oh, and keep SSAO off...little difference graphically, but HUGE performance hit reported for some people.

If only I could get my CPU stable at a higher clock things would be a bit better.
What options are people using under graphics?

Captain, just to let you know, you're sig is a bit too big as the limit is four lines of text.
