Hi,
Need a bit of advice. My pc keeps crashing when i try to play games.I have put in a new psu 500w which is ample as the old one was 300w from new.I havent changed any hard ware or memory its as it was when i bought it.I have run memtest and taken out the stick or memory and reseated it in another slot and reran memtest every thing is ok.Changed the drivers for the card cleaned the pc of dust.
My system is P4 3.4 prescot 512 ram fx 5500 and its a fijitsu seimens pc.All temps are ok when running it as i have checked in the bios and other software. This is the first error i get in the event log

These are blue screen errors it only seams to happen when i try to play a game and the pc screen turns it self off any ideas thanks.

Yea thats why i changed it i had the new supply checked before i came home with it as i needed a new one as the other pc i got the psu has blown on there lol but thats another stoy lol.I have also tryed to put in a card from my old pc which is 8 years old and the card is a ti 4200 in ther but not sure if its compatable tbh as its older.

right, well does this only happen when you try to play games.? certain games.?

have you ran any cpu stress test to make sure heat is not an issue.?

The problem has got worse tbh over the last few weeks i got the new psu last week every thing else is working ok i can watch things on the net ok but no games even the old games like diablo i cant play as the screen flashes black and i get numbers in the left corner also in wow i get the scren flashing blank and then crashes.I was able to play cod 2 but i cant play that now as i either get a blue screen or no signal on the lcd monitor but the pc is still on.

Hmm sounds to me like a graphics card error, i dont suppose you have another one handy that you could use for test purposes.? what are the rest of your system specs.? have to tried updating the graphics card driver to the latest one from the nvidia/ati website.?

I have down loaded a diag tool from fujitsu and as soon as it gets to the graphics test the pc goes again. At the momment Everest is saying the cpu temp is 53c but the bios was saying 74c. I did a few years ago have a problem with the cpu temp and as it was under warranty i had that fixed needed new thermal paste but it is not as high now as it was then as it was going to 90 odd c and i could play games just the pc would switch off.

ok, seems it could be a failing graphics card, what card is it if you know.? and what cpu do you have.? if the bios is saying its at 72oc, that i pretty high and would only increase during gaming sessions hence the pc shutting down loading games

specs P4 3.4mhz 512 ram 200gb hard drive tryed a few drivers been lookig around the net for a few weeks abou this and on the nvidia forums.GFX CARD fx 5500 8x agp.I have another card but not sure if its working s the other pc i have blew lol but its an older one ti4200 i bought it from overclockers and had no probs with it lovely card for the time lol.I have tryed it but i get beeps so not sure it works or compalable.

The best way to save time, is to start from scratch (i find anyway)

You'll need to do a format. Check for BIOS updates. Make sure youve got updates for everything (now if its games) esp graphics, sound and directx updates!! Its cruical. And anything else that is media related!!

Honestly you'll spend hours and hours trying to sort out one problem when after 3 hours you could have your system back up online from fresh!! I typically do 2/3 formats a year (if my systems in a mess!) - NOW if you still get it after all that, i would say it points to hardware - at least that way you know its not a driver/software issue.

I used to have a problem with my 4870x2 with crysis, it keep freezing and i played in in directx9 mode instead of 10 and it worked fine.

ive never known a power supply to have caused a blue screen. Effectly (and like a lot of hardware) either it works first time or it doesnt. The computer doesnt choose when to failure (though admittedly there is more demand from psu with graphics!)

i would get some thermal paste and give the cpu a clean coat after removing the old stuff mate, loads of vids on youtube on how to do this, very simple.

and would look into getting a replacement graphics cardm, as im almost certain thats whats causing the problems :)

Thnks for that info i have tryed and downloaded the last update for directx 9 as im running xp on here as i thought dx10 was for vista only.I had a look for bios updates and what it said was that the only it only updated the sata driver but i havent got that inuse anyway.Strange thing is my old pc which blew was a lot older 9 years old infact and ran WOW Half life2 with older drivers as the card was older with np at all thats what i think is strange even after the last patch from WOW which had an update for the nvidia cards the older pc ran it np bit laggy but it was older. This pc no wont run a thing lol

I think it is the card to tbh ill have a quick look in the bios now and see what it says and come back as it has bn on for a bit.

or have a go at uninstalling the game, and update windows with the latest drivers, reinstall the graphics card drivers, then reinstall the game.?

bios update cpu temp 59c last temp i gave of 72c was after running memtest.I have updated the drivers taken out the card resloted the card cleaned everywhere. Also i forgot to say, wife reminded me, the prob with the screen flashing blank had happened over a few months but only now and again in wow and the screen would have no signal message so had to switch off and reboot and all ok but it would only happen now and again.
Windows is up to date with drivers i have update on.Graphics drivers i have tryed a few old ones new ones and cleaned out previous drivers before adding new ones.
