Yeah but...is the account an offline one or an online one? :p

If it's an offline account, then you obviously won't be able to play online.

Unless you activate it or what have you...Have you gone into the GWL dialogue (pressing home I believe) And gone to account settings or something and had a look there? Change account type I' guessing =/...see what is about.

yeah, each time I started to load the game I had the link your account to games for windows prompt so I did that so I guess it's an online account:

Have you opened up any ports in you're router by the way? It might help.

For some reason, there is no option to change your account 'type' any more =/...It was there last time I checked.

For some reason I still think you are running an offline account...I'm going by the screenshot above as well, as you have no achievements...And you're relatively far in the game as you have a suit, so you should have atleast some.

There used to be an option in the 'home' menu somewhere....Can't seem to locate it now though =/.

I did have an offline account originally, so I don't know if I noticed it there or not.
 
I was having a problem where one of the missions would freeze on the 'Loading' screen. Changing from 8.12 ATI drivers to 9.2 fixed it. Bizarre.
 
Just thought I'd post a little "loading time reduction hint" that may or may not have been posted before.

When the game is going through it's seemingly endless loading sequence (you know the one - the fancy slideshow of the artwork of different characters, and the now annoying music). Just press your 'home' button to access the Games For Windows menu, keep it popped-up, and your game should load up at about 5 times the speed.

It does for me anywho. Give it a whirl, you've got nothing to lose.

I am totally fed up with pc gaming now, first cod waw does not work correctly, now i finally get around to starting GTA 4 and i get a Fatal Error WS10 on start up.

I tried re0installing patched to 1.2, reinstalled windows live and still nothing.

Does anyone know how to sort this before i burn gta4 along with cod

Do you have everything needed installed...

Apparently that error is due to Live, have you definitely got the latest version?

Uninstall everything relating to it, then go here and download the latest update: http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-US/Support/Pages/technicalIssuesGuide.aspx

See how it goes.
 
The cleanest way to install GTA IV is -

Make sure nothing GTA related is installed to start off with (and social club)

Install the latest GFW Live client - http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9640147

Install GTA IV

Install GTA IV Patch 1.2 - http://media.rockstargames.com/patch/gtaivpc/version_1.0.2.0/GTAIV_Patch_1.0.2.0.rar

Open Social Club and register/log in

Click play

Let game load to main menu, then sign into GFW Live profile

Play !

And yes, this is a total balls up way of playing the game, its ridiculous the amount of hoops people have to go through. They blame PC gaming "demise" on piracy...............
 
I've been getting the KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR blue screen quite often when I play GTA 4 now, it's very annoying and often results in chkdsk being run.

I was also wondering if auto-aim was allowed in the PC multiplayer? Is it only for people with controllers?

It's a server function regarding the auto-aim I believe.
 
Guys, this has probably come up before but:

Is there a setting or control to make your perspective whilst driving a bit easier using a keyboard and mouse? Eg. When you're driving you still have to constantly move the mouse to move with the direction/angel of your driving.

Maybe it just me, but I seem to remember, in Vice City anyway, that once you got into a vehicle you could more or less let go of the mouse until you got out again :)

Any ideas?
