Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

I played rp and it was pretty close, I ended up winning more then him although he was a bit difficult to get close too with the amount of fireballs he was sending out. :p The others I haven't played yet in SF4.

Right anyway, thanks for showing me I'm rubbish. :D I don't have default controls but I'm gonna mess around with them, and definately try and add a few things to my game. How did you do against Cavallino?

he used to own me when we first played but i discovered some anti-guile strats since... last time we played i beat him (not by a massive margin though).

i personally found cav to be the toughest out of the ones i mentioned but different people have problems/advantages over different things so play them all :D

i think sagat will do pretty well vs guile though, hes going to have to come to you a lot

Something that has been bugging me for a while.

Why is Ryu's Ultra rated the highest in the game ???
At least 4 other character Ultras are more powerful and some are easier to pull off.

I'm pretty sure that youtube video copied them stats from the strategy guide.
Other way round ;)

because he can link it from his jab dragon punch.

he can use it WITHOUT fadc when used as anti-air, he can then just use his ultra... he can do this even if he TRADES HITS which is totaly stupid. it also does full damage so thats half your life gone :)

it also connects off a few other combos with or without fadc, and it hits like a damn train

In the US a guy using Guile beat a ranked Tourney player as Sagat so anything is possbile.

i didnt say it was impossible, im not even familiar with the match up :p

So what?!?!, many characters can link Combos with more damaging effects.

I've watched Ryu's combo vids on uTube and i'm still not convinced.
His Ultra is pretty average.

Reading that shoryuken forum it seems that tier holds no sway on much tbh. A tourney held in japan yielded Abel of all characters as the champion, he beat Sagat in the final.

Yay! Go Abel!

how many others get a guaranteed ultra opportunity so easily? which also does full damage?

theres probably other properties of it which make it really good.

bottom line is you could basically lose half your life for jumping, even if he messes up his timing. how many times have you eaten a dragon punch whilst jumping in on ryu? if his ultra is up, you're ****ed :p

I'm with ojste on this one tbh, while ryus may not be the most powerful or the hardest to dodge if fired poorly, it has so many more situations where it is undodgable compared to others. I recall recently when i simply jumped away from someone and he unleashed an ultra, 'fool' i thought to myself, only to realize he had timed it perfectly to hit me in the face.

Ultra hittage from that far away with no chance of avoiding? Pretty impressive imo.

I've just done a test on the training mode.

Ryu
Dragon punch into Ultra

Balrog
Ultra Combo

Balrog does more damage on just his Ultra than both of Ryu's moves combined.
Balrogs full hit combo with Ultra kills an opponent in one swoop !!

i dont know where you read it was the higest rated in the game but its definitely one of the best. maybe you should ask on srk and ask them why its good. i certainly wouldnt call ryus ultra average though lol

In the Strategy Guide and websites. The above video also shows him as the only character with a 5 star Ultra.
I've yet to see any real evidence of his Ultra being so powerful.

Saw a video recently outlining the stats for all the characters and all i can say is why bother playing anyone other than sagat? He's average for speed but one of the strongest, with one of the longest reaches, has the most powerful moves and has some of the most health.

Ouch, I've been using Dan a lot as I felt his style was similar (ish) to Ryu, and he's not nearly as popular online... but hes last in the list on that youtube vid :0

Fei Long it is then!

Regarding that tier list you shouldn't pay much attention to it as a) the tiers are very close in SFIV and b) they will constantly change as the characters are explored. Initially Viper was considered low tier, hence the C rating, but a lot of Japanese players have been using her and many rate her near the top. Same with Akuma and theres no way that Sim is a C with all the tools he has at his disposal including arguably the best ultra in the game. Heres what he can do in the right hands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKNu0Ln062g

The moral is play the character you like the best and forget about tiers. Yes you may have to work a bit harder for your BP as Guile or Vega but if you enjoy those characters it shouldn't put you off.

right, gonna sound like such a noob but im havin such trouble with ryu's NORMAL (yes, normal) trials.
stuck on the one which is level 5 i think, its jump heavy punch, heavy kick, shinku haduken
cant get the timing right on the haduken at all, anyone got any advice on timing or how i can best learn it?

So what's the best way to break through Ryus and Sagats who spam fireballs constantly?

I chose abel purely to overcome fireball spammers. His roll move passes through fireballs and so does his super and ultra combos. He's one of the fastest dashers and second only to zangief at close range.
