Hawx

played the 360 demo. It's VERY arcadey. Anyone expecting any sort of sim is going to be extremely disappointed.

Im sure the plane models and stats are going to be very accurate, as is the tradition of the Tom Clancey games.

But the game play itself is aim and shoot, and flare before the missile hits you. I personally enjoy this, and ive long wanted a nice arcade flight combat game for the pc in the style of ace combat.

It's got this strange "non guided mode" where on the 360 you pull either left or right trigger twice and it enters a sort of almost 2d style view - it's very hard to explain. But it's meant for dog fighting style action, and works quite well. It's not 2d... but the way the camera works it almost feels like it. In the demo though, this was optional - so it's hard to say why you should use it really.. as its definitely easier to just stay in the "guided" mode where you have the standard ace combat over the head view.

So not too sure about that. But yeah, very arcadey and not a sim from what ive seen. At times in the demo, id say it even reminded me of something like "After burner" where you would tag incoming targets, release a couple of missiles and move on to the next! very fast paced.

Sounds like i should enjoy it then think i will wait and see how much money i get for my birthday then go et it.

I'm also hoping that Virgin are feeling kind and giving me goodspeeds later

Me too usualy i hit download and they automaticaly slash my download speeds, even tho i never download

Purchased on pre-order on sunday night...been looking forward to this since I heard about it last year...certainly about time we had a very damn good air combat sim...and yes been ordered for the PC not some console thingy hehehehe... :D

Ive heard this runs at 60 FPS on the consoles, so technically, it should be very well optimised if Ubi havent slacked, could be good ! I havent played an arcade flight sim in years, heres hoping this brings me back :).

and yes been ordered for the PC not some console thingy hehehehe... :D

Im torn between geting a console or poking my pennys into cracks in the pavement just now, all my work mates play online and i fancy a bit of that but most of the pc servers are different (arent they) so i would have to get a console, but then i refuse to pay to play online and i dont want to be stairing at 3 red lines after 6 months.

Im running a quad Q6600cu and 2x 8800gt gfx in sli so cant justify a console either

Well I managed to download 170 meg of it before Virgin very kindly capped me. I've really gotta change ISP!

If people could post screenshots once they've got it, that would be good!

think the game might be out by time anyone as actually downloaded it...

so u may be waiting a while for your screenie's :)

EDIT: infact i will have it with in next hour! found a good torrent getting 700+kbps (its on the bay)

Been patiently waiting for this as I miss Ace Combat so much. I have been trying to play HAWX in the last hour...I just cannot recover from a stall (the second checkpoint) and just crash the plane (plummets like a stone) - either I'm useless or the assistance mode is carp :-( I gave up after 20 tries...using Xbox 360 controller and default controls.

The amount of impatient babies on the official HAWX forum is unbelivable

I ran the performance test on 1920 x 1200 with 8x AA and got 59fps minimum and 275 maximum...

FYI Vista & DX10 users, right click on the Games Explorer shortcut and you can pick to run in DX10 mode. Unlocks a bunch of new video options like SSAO and some other things. 1 thing i noticed different was the God Rays (sun beams). Not to shabby.

So annoying these extra things they enable for DX10 users. Especially when most of the features run perfectly well in DX9 if Crysis is anything to go by
