Hawx

I thought there was going to be COOP in the demo as well.

I heard that there would be co-op as well, its a real shame they haven't included this as I was really looking forward to it :(

Apart from the exclusion of that from the demo, it looks really good and plays well as well.

Mixed bag really FPS wise.

1920x1200 4xAA everything else max
DX9 mode FPS are:
59 min 157 max
Very smooth but looks pretty dated apart from the smoke/cloud FX.

1920x1200 4xAA everything else max
DX10 mode FPS are:
27 min 219 max

DX10 is not playable at all and looks a lot better. Water still looks poor as no life to it with no wave structure. Explosion when you crash into it the water is awful + the ingame explosions look pretty poor as well which is odd as the smoke looks so good. They should have put little shockwaves in them to jazz it up a bit.

Yet the smoke/cloud is some of the very best ever seen in a game so far and looks photo realistic. Landscapes are also photorealistic from a distance (as they should be with satellite imagery textures) but up close they look poor, so do the buildings which are very dated. Plane models are ok but nothing special and the gameplay is obviously arcade based. The whole thing feels like a slightly prettier version of Ace Combat6 so luckily for Ubisoft that Namco cannot sue them as you presumably cannot copyright the arcade air combat scenario! Think I will wait for the full game and see how limited the campaigns are before buying or not.

Good to see some support for ATI with DX10.1 though. Perhaps they run it better than Nvidia cards on DX10 mode.

FYI Vista & DX10 users, right click on the Games Explorer shortcut and you can pick to run in DX10 mode. Unlocks a bunch of new video options like SSAO and some other things. 1 thing i noticed different was the God Rays (sun beams). Not to shabby.

Anyone manage to get that method to work in Windows 7 Beta? Seems to be a bit flakey even launching the game in Win7 - the only way it would run was to directly click the .exe. None of the shortcuts would work at all.

Just played the demo through.

Everything maxed out 8xAA DX10.1 1920x1200

I think it looks absoloutely fantastic and the action is far far greater than in Ace Combat.

You actually feel like you're in a warzone amazing amounts of action.

Will be buying this.

I was also very impressed, though can't help but feel it's by nature a very shallow game. Unless the later levels have additional depth to play?

It's nice to just sit back and shoot some planes once in a while though!

Yeah, I think the graphics are stunning personally! Looks better than FSX ;) Quite good fun too - although I'm not sure how long it would keep my interest. I imagine it would get very samey after a while

Just played the PS3 demo of this actually. It's not bad, but certainly nothing new or that exciting. I'll probably rent it.

Downloading the demo now. 1.1mb/s :)
Looks nice from the trailers, how does the flying compare to the jets in Battlefield 2 (ie feels really fast - with lots of low to the ground combat?)

I like it, although the planes are massive if you go slowly near the ground... they're as big as the buildings.

Just tried the demo. Flight game combat from a camera view like that? What a load of absolute ***** -> didn't even complete the initial demo mission - got bored of trying to chase down the drones with the controls + camera view that don't really work

It looks nice, and could have been great fun if you didn't have to use that camera view.....

I'll carry on waiting for a fast paced flight combat game which I can pretend I'm from topgun with.

Yeah I felt the same way - trying to sideslip to get the drones chasing you - all I kept doing was stalling - annoying view. All I want to do is fly around and shoot stuff like in Ace Combat.

The view does annoy me as well. I realise it's an attempt to make it easier for people who might not be very good at flying, and allow them to pull of manoeuvres that would normally require a bit of skill, but for someone who wants to sit in the cockpit and actually fly the plane, it's just frustrating.
