Torres injuries cost us - Benitez

Everybody bashes Liverpool and says they're nothing without Gerrard and Torres, and yet when Benitez (sort of) agrees, he's delusional?

Didn't say he was. Your defence has got you where you are this season and they deserve all the credit they have received both individually and collectively.

actually i think last season there were a few people saying that we were a one man team and that if ronaldo didn't perform like he had last season we'd be in trouble. i like to see it as the other players showing that even without Ronaldo being truly phenomenal they can still step up to the plate.

I've left out a couple like fabio, rodders and tosic as they haven't really proved it yet although i do think they could do a job for a premier league team, but i'm pretty confident that all the above players could do a job for a non relegation candidate team in the premiership.

*i didn't know if wohoo was including united in his other clubs like chelsea

Nope United werent included in my list. they are a class apart in terms of squad size.****'s :p

I think whats clearly happening with Liverpool now is that the fans are finally starting to get fed-up with Rafa. As a club I think our fans are some of the most patient and passive in terms of giving a manager time and benefit of the doubt, however its clear that he's starting to get under peoples skin.

Result Liverpool 2 Man United 1

Teams:

Pepe Reina Edwin Van der Sar
Fabio Aurelio Patrice Evra
Jamie Carragher (c) Rio Ferdinand (c)
Martin Skrtel Numanja Vidic
Alvaro Arbeloa Wes Brown
Albert Riera Wayne Rooney
Xabi Alonso Michael Carrick
Javier Mascherano Paul Scholes
Yossi Benayoun Anderson
Robbie Keane Dimitar Berbatov
Dirk Kuyt Carlos Tevez

Not bad without Torres and Gerrard.....

Anyway, Benitez is just stating facts...he likes doing that. :) Of course not having your best player in the side is going to affect results.

i can't believe i'm going to agree with you on this one (trust me it sticks in my throat) but you've proved it. The key to your success this season was obviously Robbie Keane... ;)

Standard crap reporting tbh, yes losing Torres probably did make a difference, but as he says all teams have injuries.

Can't see much to argue with there.

That doesn't make a good headline though ;)

What's better is that Rafa never says Torres' injuries have cost us either but anybody that watched the press conference rather than read a rubbish headline would have known that.

What Lame excuse has the fat man blurted out now?

Our failure to win the prem this time is due to Torres?

He has the fastest winger come striker and deadliest finisher in the premiership the legend himself dirk kuyt to destroy teams!

Nothing to do with your awful purchases, tactics, teamselections or your pathetic attempt at trying to play the big man with fergie. What planet are you on fatman? No money to spend? Pull the other one mate.

Jeez why is it negative Liverpool has such a fantastic record of destroying attacking players?

Stop the lame excuses or just leave quickly.

To be fair to Benitez, the BBC follow the recent trend that other media outlets are guilty of in creating sensationalist headlines that do not come from direct quotes from the person in question. He can suggest that injuries have played a downfall, but to blunt they've been in the best position they have been for years regardless of these injuries.

The lack of urgency, lack of quality, lack of guts and desire shown by some of the players has been Liverpool's downfall, and ultimately that is down to Benitez. Not enough belief, just a lot of hot air around January time, enough to fill a few hot air balloons. Time and time again he has shown that regardless of form, he has the knack of just dropping a player in a good run of form. Benayoun being the most recent example. It is absolutely no coincidence that they've fallen apart since his rant.

Id like to see the other teams that you guys are claiming have 18+ premiership quality player, not even chelsea have that ffs, get some some ****ing perspective.

Cech
Boswinga
Cole
Terry
Alex
Lampard
Ballack
Essien
Cole
Drogba
Anelka
Carvalho
Quaresma
Belletti
Ferreira
Malouda
Deco
Mikel

Not the best players in the world, but certainly good enough to play in the Premiership.

:p

i can't believe any liverpool supporter is happy with Rafa, his decisions are bewildering at times.

the torres injury only hurts because there's absolutely no cover - mismanagement at it's best.

cup team although i suspect they aren't even that right now, fluked it in Madrid and i fancy Real in the return to cause an upset.

I think having torres injured has hurt liverpool badly, it was Rafa's job to find cover for him. He failed.

But Parry bought him! Rafa never wanted him, i'm no Liverpool fan but i'm guessing the whole Parry thing at the club is denting what Rafa wants to do with the club.

He still bought reina, skytle (sp) alonso (barry nxt season), masch, torres.

He needs a bigger squad of players, thats obvious and he's not been given it. Man U's squad has been built over decade. I mean they spent £17 on nani didnt they had he's looked worse than when he 1st arrived at the club, but no one says anything about it. It will be an intresting league nxt season when Ronaldo joins Real.

They did'nt show that against spurs, that was a cup final and they certainly showed they are beatable.

We did? I think we won if I remember correctly. For us to look beatable someone would have to beat us. We may not be winning games by huge margins but we are good at getting the results we need.

Players like Torres are not players you can easily replace in a squad, its not mismanagement its a fact:p

Ngog is banging them in now anyway:D

No need to be defensive, you were playing a weakened side after all, but I do think that Spurs could have beaten you had Lennon made a good cross or two!
