The *Official* Eve Online Thread

i can barely remember much from back when i played... the raven is a good ship for level 2 missions?

Save the Raven for lvl 4's. Remembering back like 2 years ago i think i used a caracal for lvl 2 missions and then moved on to a drake for lvl 3's (can even do some lvl 4's in it).

Looking at my assets page i have junk stashed everywhere but i do have a drake so i got in my badger Mk 2 and flew around picking up all the stuff i needed to kit it out and am on my way to it now!

Edit... just so happens its parked in a system where i have access to a 18 quality lvl 2 mission dude... i dont have any caracals already so i really dont want to buy one atm so ill use the drake for the lvl 2s

Do you have docking rights if it's at an outpost? If so, shuttle down, lot's of istabs, maybe a cloak, mwd and pray you don't hit a bubble :D

Or sell it and buy a new one, maybe make a profit, stick it up above the cost of a new one from a hub and lower than the lowest one on the market, someone will snap it up.

This is probably best. Cheers dude, when I've moved everything about so its in one central location I'll head down there.

Too long; Did not read: I had pewpew fun tonight.

Had some fun fights tonight, after not having much luck on the war decs recently I decided to go for a roam. I scouted out the low sec entry points with my alt and found a couple of targets in Kador region.

First Fight

First I found a few people in Zinoo system, a pirate alliance that didnt seem to have that much around. 3 or 4 of them 1 jump past Zinoo into low sec and 2 of them in Zinoo itself. I sat watching them with my alt, they would chase a few people around Zinoo trying to pop them. One of them moved onto the highsec gate where I would be jumping in from but I was still a few jumps out in my Hyperion.

By the time I arrived he was gone, back into the system somewhere, I think at a POS. So I sat my hype on the highsec side of the gate hoping they would fancy their luck against me, thinking I was some highsec dweller who was new to pvp. A viator from their alt corp turned up and sat next to me on the gate, moments later an Absolution and Cerberus turned up on the lowsec side, Abso at zero and Cerb at around 100km. I jump in.

I hold cloak a few seconds to give them the impression I was not expecting them to be there, then start slow boating it back to the gate even though I have a MWD. Success as the Abso fires at me, Im no longer flashing red after a week in 0.0 grinding up from -9 point whatever it was. They both take the sentry gun agro. As soon as he fired he set his own fate. MWD on, target locked, one point. Set the ship to hold 3600 meters from target which is the guns optimal. 10km away and closing at 700m/s now, webbed and open fire with my 5x Ion Blaster Cannon II's and 3x Electron Blaster Cannon II's.

The abso puts up a good show and doesnt stop firing until hes dead, takes a short while as they have very nice resists. He tried to MWD away but I overheat the web and guns to get the job done quicker. Their combined DPS didnt warrent me turning on my second rep other then for 1 or 2 cycles. Pop, tech 2 loots in my cargo and the Cerb warps off. "GF" is exchanged in local and I slip back out to highsec to re-arm and repair my now damaged mods (From overheating).

>>> Absolution Killmail (EANM Stacking penalty, yuck.)

Second Fight

The second fight of the night, I fly 10 jumps to the other side of the region, another lowsec entry point called Ansasos. Im lucky tonight as I find some more active lowsec inhabitants, this time a corperation called Evercon. They dont seem to be pirates at first glance but then I notice one of them is outlaw so its worth a shot, I bring Eightnie over in the Hype.

Its a nice small system and right away I see their ships on the scanner, Abaddon, Hyperion, Megathron and Drake. After a moment or two of scanning I find the Abaddon at a station, show info tells me hes been playing from 2006, there is another one from late 2005 and two from late 2008. Only the 2005 player is an outlaw. I decide to test the water, I warp my hype to the highsec side of the gate and there is old player sat there in a velator (newbie ship), obvious alt then. Yup, they warp to their side of the gate a short time after I landed. I hesitate a little bit as I had just bought this Hype and it cost 305m... and this was me vs 2 teir 3, a tier 2 BS and a Drake. Time to see if that ISK was well spent, JUUUMMP!

Again I act like I dont want to fight and re-approach the gate, I make it back without them engaging... The outlaw in the Hyperion is targeting me but not firing, I taunt them in local a little bit (nothing bad ;)) and that does the trick, the Hyperion engages. It takes him a couple of vollys to break through my shields, this guy is doing bugger all DPS, the sentry guns are into his armor and eating all his drones. The other ships are not firing so I decide its now or never, time to give him a tank test! He is close range and I engage as soon as I get the lock, my first volly puts him into around 80% armor.

The overview starts flashing red as the other ships open fire now I have engaged their friend, I fire up both T2 large reps but my armour is slowly falling. It gets to 60-65% then my reps finish their cycles and it zooms up by 30%. But their DPS takes it 15% lower everytime, Im going down! But then I remember I can overheat the reps as well! It works nicely and gives my tank an extra 225DPS or so, pulling my armour back up. I keep that on for 3 cycles and my armor is back to 95%. I turn off overheating before the reps explode, it has done its job and given me the edge just when I needed it.

After slugging it out the enemy Hyperion is into structure, he has a damage control on and his rep is still going. It takes a little while to finish him off, pop, his wreck is 10km off the gate in the end as he tried to run away out of my disruptor range. Next target, Abaddon, in the right hands it can beat anything, lets see if this fella is up to scratch. Hes sat right on the gate and is within blaster range after a short MWD burst, the sentry guns had already chipped off his shield for me and my guns start doing the rest. Hes diying and Im now tanking the rest of the gang relatively easily, one rep on constantly and the second one doing a cycle every so often. As long as my cap holds up I'll be okay and with 3 BS kills under my belt... and thats when I notice I just reloaded up my last Cap Charge 800's. Damn, my cap wont hold for long once they are spent, that Hype took to long to go down.

I need this abaddon out quick, time to overload all my guns, my damage ramps up, hes into structure! Another damage control II :( his structure is hardened. This hyperion eats capacitor, and I just fired my last 800, whatever is left in the capacitor now is all I got, unless... I fire up the MWD for a burst and drift over to the Hyperion wreck, sacrificing my guns optimal range in the hope that the hype was cap boosting and left some 800s behind. Another success, its my lucky day, I manage to salvage 4 800s from the wreck, my drones are slowly eating the Abaddons structure and thats when I notice, holy faction loot! The Hyperion dropped Dark Blood and Amarr Navy items, scooped :) They belong to me now.

I move back into gun range on the abaddon, fire up my last booster and tear into him, I watch the satisfying explosion. Back to the gate for me :( The drake is only 18km away but I cant risk it with no more boosters, I need to de-agro and wait 30 seconds to jump out. I scoop the Abaddon wreck, all tech 2. Shame to leave the drake and mega unharmed, damn my small cargo hold. I jump back into highsec, home free.

>>> Hyperion Killmail (faction tank and tech 1 guns, nice.)
>>> Abaddon Killmail (Every one knows you buffer tank these *Face Palm*)

After 2 years of low sec piracy this is the most Ive made in a night from pvp (highsec mission runner kills not included), 210m of faction gear +regular tech 2 stuff.

Amarr Navy Energized Adaptive Nano Membrain
Amarr Navy Large Armor Repairer
Dark Blood Heavy Cap Injector
Dark Blood Stasis Webifier

Currently deciding what to do with them, I could sell them and make the 210m or I could attach them to my Hyperion and make it the most expensive ship I have ever flown. Of course I cant just leave it at that, if I put that stuff on then I have to faction fit the rest of it.

Current setup (Cost me 305m), 210m profit from tonight:

Faction setup, would cost me an extra 385m ontop of the looted items. Total ship cost works out at (305+210+275) 790m total worth, +110m for the 5% powergrid implant needed to fit it.
2crkcvm.jpg

And for what? A tank increase of 119 and DPS increase of 35, better ranges from warp disrruptor/web and its LESS cap stable. I know its not worth it, my wallet says hell no but faction gear is like (I imagine) crack. Before this Hyperion I had never used any faction gear EVER, but now I cant make a ship in Eve Fitting Tool without using Amarr Navy EANMs, its the first taste, Im addicted. First its 2x 25m mods, next its a 790 million ISK hyperion. Dont do drugs, drugs are bad.

Long post I know, sorry :).

Nicely written up :) and that Abaddon setup while not seeming like a decent setup, looks like it was setup specifically to permatank the sentries while offering a little more tank should someone engage :) sadly for them you tore them a new exhaust port :D

Sounds like a good fight, have not done any PvP for over 18 months so a little rusty. But why did the hype and the abandon not batter you at the same time. Not sure why they didnt just team up on you... maybe im missing something here lol..

Good karma on the 800 cap booster find though :) love it when that happens.

Yeah was a good read, Really thinking off making a come back now ;-) , although my character is stuck in 0.0 I was in IAC which I believe is no more ?

if only one of them engages, the sentries only shoot that one. means the others can camp the gate (without sentry fire) while the aggro'd guy waits off grid until some action comes along.

and as pointed out. if you sit under sentry fire, buffer tank doesn't do you much good without someone else repping you!

The others didnt engage me until I shot at the Hyperion. The Abaddon, Mega and Drake pilots still had good security ratings and I think they didnt want to take the sec drop unless it was necessary. So they got the outlaw pilot to shoot and then watched to see what I did, run or shoot.

Once I engaged the Hyperion all 4 of them started shooting :).

Yup. And would YOU take HMS Illustrious into the continuous cluster-**** that is faction war? Nah, you get yourself a dingy instead. Maybe a really kick-ass dingy :D So I figured I'd either get me a Thanatos I'd never actually use (or only ever play station games with, meh) or fit my mission ship with Modifieds with the cash instead and build me a couple of nice T2 fighting ships.
I must be missing the point. A Thanatos needs months and months of training compared to even a command ship (Astarte) and is, well, overkill. Plus I didn't think you could jump in Empire, and also.. a Carrier in faction wars? What the hell? How overkill do you want to go? :/

Not to mention the cost of a carrier compared to a command ship is like a bank vs pocket change.

wow, so you tanked all 4 and still killed some of them... i think ill look into this ship as i have the abbandon, and while not a great PvP, i know what im doing a little more than the average person with fitting ect.

Good write up thoough, maybe we can get a OCuK PvP corp???? hehe... teach as we go.

ColiN - staying in 0.8+ space now with Nieldo out there!

Abaddon is a beast with the right fitting, the standard buffer tank setup on that is 3x Trimark Rigs, 2x 1600mm Rolled Tungsten, 2x EANM (If you have the isk go with the Amarr Navy version :D), 2x Heat Sink IIs, 8x Heavy Pulse Laser II's and a Heavy booster in the mids +whatever the situation calls for depending on if your solo/gang etc.

Theres a guy on the forums called Cown who makes pvp vids using these types of buffer setups on Amarr ships.

http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/DOP/Nothing_to_Fear.mkv

Thats his most recent release *I think*. Check it out if you want to see them in action.

Simaller to my setup - although i dodnt use cap boosters, but i tend to run in a fleet of 4 of us so find my cap recharger rigs and mid slots hold up long enough, the rest is about the same as mine aye. Amazing game, just when you think you have learnt everything, someelse pops up lol, love it. never really gone down the PvP route, more a 'can defend myself' pilot rather than a 'go kill players' person. still.... one day.... maybe after a bit of practice.

i do tend to run a nos instead of 8 lasers though.
