Driving down the M1 today, WTF is up with lorry drivers, they move into the middle lane cos they have a 2mph advantage over the other stupid ******* lorry driver in front which takes them 2 miles to pass forcing every other numpty into the outside lane and thus slowing down the flow of traffic.

At one point where its 4 lanes there were lorries in the inside, 2nd and third lane, what a load of ***** all doing around 60mph

I for one think that lorry drivers should be banned from any lane except the inside - Discuss
 
perhaps banned from overtaking each other. But moving to the 2nd lane may be helpful at other times like when approaching a busy junction.
 
I can't stand this either, and it really does clog up the motorway, but it would never happen.

Instead they should give lorry drivers KERS, then they could boost past each other. lol
 
lorry on inside lane should ease off for a seconds but its hardly the end of the world.

More annoying when the whole motorway is doing 71mph because they are overtaking a traffic officer 4x4

You do get some sound ones though. Only now and then.

I like to blast past them at 14* mph inches from them in the adjacent lane.

That really ****s them off.

I personally think that rather than race each other, the inside lorry should lift off slightly to allow the overtake to happen quicker.

Does my head in on the A34 (dual carriageway all the way).

Even worse when they try it up hill and then have to give up.

Accelerating, a fully laden lorry (one of the huge ones) will do 1MPG to get back up to good speed. For self-employed hauliers, any fuel they waste is eating into their profits, on their already small margins.

You talk about "slowing down the flow of traffic", but think about how much you're actually slowing down. If you're having to do 65 instead of 75, how much time are you losing? Hardly any time at all! What are you whinging about?

Some reasons why lorries need the second lane:
  1. Motorways are full of exists and merges. If a lorry is going to exit, it is going to slow down to take the exit. Should the lorries behind this one slow down too, and waste all that fuel? No.
  2. Sometimes there are even slower things in the left lane. Should they be late on their schedules? No.
  3. When a car mistimes joining a motorway and a lorry needs to slow down for that car, should the others slow down behind it too? No.
  4. And so on.

Hauliers need motorways more than what you do. They do an incredibly hard job and everything about the execution of that job has narrow margins. They rightfully own the motorways more than what you do - get used to it.

Stop whining.
 
Hopefully fuel will get prohibitively expensive meaning that nothing goes anywhere and the whole economy goes in to meltdown.

Then more goods will be sent via train, and teleportation when it comes in.

And when the lorry you are passing at that speed happens to swerve (we've all seen them go onto the hardshoulder/outside lane to where they are for a brief moment accidentally) then what?


They're only doing their job, and undoubtedly some will think "no I'll let this stream of xx cars go past me before I go for the overtake", however some will more than likely be annoyed as a result of people driving as you describe and other ways (cutting them up, slowing down in front of them etc etc) and think "sod them, I want to get past this lorry in front of me"

2 sides to every argument and all that.


Not saying I haven't been affected or ****** off at lorries (and cars for that matter) doing what the OP described, but the way I see it is that there's nothing you can personally do (legally, at least ;)) to stop it so let it be. </2p>

Teleportation won't come in if we don't have any money. We'll probably end up living in mud-huts if you had your way.
