Lorry Drivers

Hopefully fuel will get prohibitively expensive meaning that nothing goes anywhere and the whole economy goes in to meltdown.

Then more goods will be sent via train, and teleportation when it comes in.

And your 100% mortgage will be un-affordable too, then you can live in a box.

Now as I end up driving long distances with work I do try and give the lorries some room. They very rarely do anything suddenly, ie if you are coming up to a couple of lorries and you can see the second one closing on the first..... Here you have two options,
1. Let them out (which I normally do) and they'll thank you for it and generally put their foot down.
2. Have them force their way out and then they really will sit beside each other for miles. There are a few truckers in my family and yes, they do it on purpose at times :D

I tend to go for option 1 and get a thanks flash off them as I go back past when they pull in.

Now, as much as I think that this thread is daft, this takes the biscuit. They don't have any extra to give, limited to 56MPH with only the load and fluctuation of the limiters giving any speed differences, it would be impossible for the driver to "put his foot down" just so that he can thank you by not holding you up.

So, congratulations for making something ridiculous up.

Driving down the M1 today, WTF is up with lorry drivers, they move into the middle lane cos they have a 2mph advantage over the other stupid ******* lorry driver in front which takes them 2 miles to pass forcing every other numpty into the outside lane and thus slowing down the flow of traffic.

At one point where its 4 lanes there were lorries in the inside, 2nd and third lane, what a load of ***** all doing around 60mph

I for one think that lorry drivers should be banned from any lane except the inside - Discuss

Why are you not in the inside lane infront of the lorries. Assuming they're doing 60, and you're doing 70, you would take advantage of this, overtake them and come back to the inside lane.

If you are reading thr road properly and looking ahead it should not cause a problem at all. I think you may find its probably the car drivers who think the middle lane and outside lane is just for them.

cos all the lorries **** about in the first two lanes meaning everyone else is in the outside lane causing congestion so you cant get past the lorries before the next load of **** wit lorry drivers

If EVERYONE moved into the left-most lane possible, then there will always be a couple of lanes available for overtaking.

It's the idiot car drivers who sit in the middle/outside lanes who cause the vast majority of the problems and hold ups!

STAY ON THE LEFT!

Oh do give over. Yes I am fully aware that they are restricted to 56 and that its affected by the load. However I do know that they will sit there in the outside lane deliberately if you are an arse to them. Yes I have seen them lift off when they pull out for that reason.

You're trying to tell me the inside lane was full of lorries, and only lorries? Where were you leaving from? Leyland factory?

The problem is not lorry drivers, they move back in to lane 1 once they are done overtaking. The problem is the fools who drive only in lane 2 at 70 mph and then switch off and day dream, completely oblivious and not understanding that they are holding up everyone who wants to make faster progress.

Everyone then doing 75mph has to overtake them in lane 3, blocking that lane up, meaning anyone wishing to go faster, can't. Throughout this, lane 1 will more than likely be completely empty.

Going against the grain of the thread, I have a lot of respect for lorry drivers, in particular class 1 (artic) drivers. You should attempt reversing one down a narrow road with parked cars either side some day:p

I rarely encounter bad lorry drivers, bad car drivers is an every day occurrence.

Nail. Head. Thread.

/Begin discussion.

You have no idea what you're talking about and you hold the POV of someone who has little knowledge or experience of the transport network.

/End dicussion.
Most of em are complete ****wits.

You do get some sound ones though. Only now and then.

I like to blast past them at 14* mph inches from them in the adjacent lane.

That really ****s them off.
Ah, so you "teach them a lesson", eh?
Well done. A very responsible and mature attitude for a driver to have.

1. You're an idiot if you actually believe what you say in this post.
2. Everything that can go by rail, already does. The rail network is basic to say the least. At least try and research your subject before spouting such drivel.

Lorries have the right to overtake, hell they have more right to than normal cars you could say as they pay far more in duty+tax than most cars.

I do agree that either lorries should be rstricted to the inside lane or they should be de-limited so that they can overtake if necessary. The snail races do cause traffic hold ups and should be stopped.

The problem isn't lorry drivers, it's stupid and ignorant motorists who don't understand how difficult driving a hgv is. I always give them more respect because they are a lot bigger than me!

Hes a fantastic driver, my favourite thread of his in motors is the one where he has been nabbed doing 90+ thats to me is a responsible driver. Actually wait no, infact I have been wrong that combined with the drivel he has posted in here to me says a lot about his attitude on the road.
I think its fair to say there are a number of moronic HGV drivers on the roads, however from what I see (and I do a lot of driving) they are a minority. What I see more than anything is ignorant car drivers who seemingly have NO idea. I spend my days in a Sprinter, its no 44ton HGV but I have no rear visibility and im limited to 56mph on DC and 50 on NSL. Day in day out I get tards so close to me I cant see them in my mirrors and give me no room/time to complete my manouvers without beeping and flashing at me. Ive nothing but respect for HGV drivers, I get a hard enough time so I make it easy enough for them when I can.
