have just got a brand new phone had it about 2 months only really starting using it last few weeks as im using my old mobile aswell which i use for work.

The only ppl that have my new number are family and a few close friends and work mates ,last week or so im keep getting calls from the same mysterious number which starts off with 075 which i believe is a O2 number not that helps.
The person that keeps calling just says nothing then puts the phone down after 20-30 seconds this has happened about 30 times this weekend.
ive looked on my phone and i cannot block one number, only all calls which is no good is there anything i can do apart from changing my sim which will no doubt cost me money?

Can you not just call the network and ask them to block that number? I think that's possible and far less inconvenient than changing your number...

How can Orange help?

We first need to speak to the main account holder or registered user to get their authority to discuss anything about the account.

We can change your number. This can normally be done within a few hours of reporting it and is the easiest and quickest method of stopping malicious calls.

Unfortunately an investigation into previous calls cannot be undertaken once the number has been changed.
Our Malicious Calls Bureau can undertake an enquiry to find the number that made withheld number calls and/or voicemails, however this information can only be disclosed to the Police in the course of an investigation. If you want us to pass this information to the police we may ask you to answer suspect calls for a couple of seconds and to record the dates and times.

Unfortunately Orange cannot block calls or texts although these features are available on some phones.

Note: If you already have the number of the caller or a text message saved on your phone you can go direct to the Police for further action.

Odd, I swear o2 can do this, could be wrong though.

Maybe there's an app which can block incoming calls?

Or you could just change your number...but I mean...it's a brand new one, it could be a simple as it's a reused number which someone is phoning accidentally?

there is know way the person is calling by accident believe me, ive had about 30 calls today all of which the person does not say hello when i answer and then says nothing for 30 seconds then puts the phone down.
This is not by accident you know when someone is calling you to be a pain in the ass and torment

But I mean, logically, it's a new number, so unless you have someone really out to get you (and I use that phrase loosely) who happens to be privvy to this information it's unlikely you're being targeted like this isn't it? Sounds silly, but explain to the person on the line (assuming you're right about them being there, listening) that this is a new number and you're probably not whoever the person calling you is trying to torment and you'd very much appreciate being left alone. Long shot, maybe, but surely preferable to changing the number again?

What kind of idiot nuisance caller makes calls and doesn't hide their number?

so someone has rang my number for the last week everyday numerous times does not speak when i say hello then hangs on the phone for 30 seconds then hangs up. if thats not being a nuisance caller i dont know what is

I'm not disputing the fact that they are nuisance calls, I'm wondering why if said person wished to make nuisance calls they don't try and at least disguise their number.

That's true, did you ever try calling it back?

yes i used another phone with a withheld number right after they rang me to see if the number was geniune had the same response silence then they hang up,will ring up my mobile provider tommorow and ask for a new number no big deal as only 40 ish ppl have the number so i can just text new number again

oh sorry , yes dosent seem right you would think the number would be withheld when ringing me very strange

Just an additon to something else said above, the mobile networks are not allowed to block numbers.
It is to do with the anti-competition rules (typically rules designed to help in "fair trade" are abused by others).
It's basically so that it is illegal for Orange for example to block all calls from known O2 or Vodafone operators.

Quite a lot of phones have the option to block certain numbers though.
