The new ride ...

Same formula of argument again. He raises a good point. Sometimes I feel I'm talking to a robot who will only factor performance into their valuation of a car.

What about quality? By this i mean ride quality, interior fittings quality, build quality, equipment levels, etc etc. Ignore performance, that is simply a by-product of the higher model car.

You get none of this with a punto :p

'Why did you do that?'
'Because I wanted to'
'Yea but why did you want to?'
'Because I did'

Great. The hallmark of all good internet discussions.

Fella, i earn more than that and buy 2nd hand.
Your points are crap tbh.

You should be a politician. You say a lot of things yet nothing at all.

Motors has me chuckling again, nice one lads :D

And to add to Morba, I also earn a fairly decent wage and drive around in a nearly new Nissan sunny SR worth a grand total of about £500 :p

I hope you enjoy your car OP, but posting that in here will get you a lot of flaming. A brand new fiat to transport 2 kids around, and spending £10k+ for a car just to have it new because you are afriad of paying a bit towards servicing your old car, or even trading it in and getting something a little different..... Sigh..... I really do have to thank people for throwing money away at new cars, as there are many of us who will benefit from going for them in the 2nd hand market and making huge savings.

I don't mind people discussing what else he could have got etc. I just find it pathetic and irritating when people have to start swearing at people and using personal insults just because somebody else has got the wrong end of the stick or doesn't agree with there point.

if one does not care about performance, they may well prefer an "inferior" car.

Then why spend an epic amount of money on an inferior car? For example, the OP has spent £10k+ on a FIAT Punto. Now by your reasoning, he has bought it for the looks and not the performance.

Why then didn't he buy a 3 year old example for £4k? It has identical looks, identical performance, identical everything, except one has a "09" on the numberplate and another has a "06".

You seem unable to accept that there is some subjectiveness in what makes a good car.

Can you morons read what this man has said.

There is no point in taking the argument beyond this statement because it's FACT.

None of you will admit that "there is some subjectiveness in what makes a good car," you just continue to label people who buy new cars "mugs."

You're not even putting forward decent counter arguments now you're attempting to mount personal attacks on those whose opinions differ to yours. Grow up and stop acting like bigots.

Well I personally also think that if you want a new car then that's perfectly reasonable. It's certainly easier having a warranty etc.

I probably wouldn't get a new one myself, since I'd rather just pocket the 5k/6k saving or whatever it'd be. But I'm not bothered about having a new feeling car, the OP obviously is, and that is perfectly valid.

Everyone admits this. It is so basically true that it is pointless discussing it or mentioning it. The discussion is a little deeper than that..

If we are to agree that everything is 'perfectly valid' than there can be no discussion and the forum becomes utterly pointless. The whole point is that everyone has a different opinion of whats right, and in a thread on a DISCUSSION FORUM, these opinions meet.

Or they would do were the thread not being taken over by both of Motors token non car owners all arguing about something they know nothing about.

Your argument is invalidated by your main source being Yantorsen :p

Scott, not being funny but coming into the thread and saying that people on here are muppets, and that they shouldnt be listened too isnt going to go down too well when the thread is only new, and then you continue to call them idiots.

Therefore i come to the conclusion that you need to GROW UP yourself.

and go drive your mummies mini ;)

This forum makes me laugh. Scott I suggest you stop making posts that bemoan personal insults but in the same post you call people morons and bigots. Seriously what the hell?

I like the Punto's. If you needed to get new though for the same money you could have got the 1.4 Tjet which is a much better engine, maybe even the 1.9 derv which would hardly cost a penny more on fuel and be more refined.

Fiat are doing some nice small cars atm.

He didn't actually complain about people using personal attacks I don't think (not that I recall anyway). That was me.

There's a difference between calling someone a muppet/idiot/moron and launching personal attacks on people.

Anyhow you're right about one thing this argument is getting futile so I'll go and drive my mum's Mini

Sorry I'm going waaaaay off topic here (if there is one), but yant did you crash your doly, or triumph, or whatever it was and are now looking to buy a big block V8 yank modbile ?
