Damn its like a war zone !
Steering back OT a bit ....
Wow..... just...... wow....
Im actually speachless.... 10k.... surely you could have saved atleast 2k by buying one with '58' on the numberplate rather than '09' for starters...
No, thats not the case, 1k maybe but IMO thats not enough to worry about, I may as well buy new for that difference. I got 2.5k off list price and some freebies, not to mention the colour and spec I wanted.
I like the Punto's. If you needed to get new though for the same money you could have got the 1.4 Tjet which is a much better engine, maybe even the 1.9 derv which would hardly cost a penny more on fuel and be more refined.
Fiat are doing some nice small cars atm.
Its not a better engine, its a different engine. The 1.4 Tjet will need more revs, won't have the same low down torque and didn't meet my other requirments.
My requirements were to be in the low VED band, and do good MPG in and out of town, this engine ticks those boxes for me
What about quality? By this i mean ride quality, interior fittings quality, build quality, equipment levels, etc etc. Ignore performance, that is simply a by-product of the higher model car.
You get none of this with a punto
Thats the sort of response I did expect ! now that may be your view but its a sweeping generalization based on past history.
build quality is much improved of late, it may not be perfect, but then there are many other more popular makes that aren't either.
Many people still slate Alfa for similar reasons, my 156 was never a problem in 4 years of ownership.
In terms of interior, I think it looks and feels better than the old mans 3 yr old focus, and in terms of equipment, it has more standard than most similarly priced cars in the small car sector and at similar price points.
As for ride quality, I have driven a lot worse, it smooths out rough roads very well for a little car, sure it doesn't corner like the 156, but thats not what I bought it for
