I like to think that things will improve when the government decides to stop protecting kids and youngsters, and instills discipline.

In the meantime, what I do instead of just moaning like so many others do, is report anti social behaviour, etc. Locally, residents made themselves heard with regards to certain council issues, which has stopped bringing more youths and the accompanying asb.

Having said that, it hasn't curbed the local habit of torching bins - last one was on Sat.

A shortish, stocky well-dressed bloke walked up to me (and three of my mates) in the pub on fri night and told me I was gonna get stabbed.

He was either a complete maniac and/or drugged up to the eyeballs and looking to start on the biggest person he could find. "We won't think anything of stabbing you. Are you laughing at me?" etc.

Majority of the time it's BS but the way the guy was acting did plant a seed of doubt. He walked by himself into my group (2 of us must have been twice the size of him and 1 built like a tank) and just didn't give a ****.

He walked off eventually but I saw him getting arrested for something later on when we left. Hopefully someone will take the bait one day and put him in a wheelchair or something. :)

Its not about being scared, the fact is I shouldn't have to worry about that kind of thing in the first place, nobody should. The media coverage on knife crime etc makes it even worse.

There is no denying it happens, I would imagine a lot more than the media reports as well.

Of course you shouldnt have to worry, but you are worrying far more than you reasonably should be the sounds of it. The media scare monger to sell units, and you have bitten for it in it. Completely.

Sure, people get stabbed. They always have. However, I'd be willing to bet that the amount of young people carrying around weapons these days is significantly less than it was a few decades ago.

Well, if you treat them with less respect and are condescending towards them, then they will conform to expectations. The sensationalist media tends to show young people in a bad light, so I guess if you tell people that they're a stupid bunch of *****, then that's exactly what they'll turn into.

Its always the same anyway; older people going on and on about how back in their day things were better and how kid's did what they were told (all nonsense of course).
 
I'm sure this stuff has been happening for years as Malc mentioned, but with modern media everyone gets to know about everything and anything from any part of the country
 
Some people in this thread need to live abroad for a while to realise how bad the youth culture is here. Also what's up with the sarcastis goodbye comments to R34p3r? Not his problem that he wishes to enjoy a better life style.

:rolleyes: maybe because most of us are living here and to be honest where i live youth crime is very limited as it probably is in a lot of places over the UK. Of course if you live in the ghetto of any country there is going to be some wild kids.
 
Assuming that there is a genuine rise in youth crime and associated issues, I could probably point to the breakdown of the family unit as a start point. When kids have no proper guidance or a stable family to raise them, they'll inevitably follow their peers and probably mix with the wrong crowd.
 
Back when I was in my first year, a little group one night decided to try to take my money.
So surounded me and said, "give us your money",
"no."
"then your phone"
"no, bugger off"

They kinda stood there trying to look agressive and not knowing what to do, I just walked off.

End result one black eye for a week or less, but nothing lost. Since then no one tried anything. Suspect it is about how you put yourself across as well. If you look confident, they won't bother with you.
 
This sort of thing is becoming more and more common these days. My solution is to castrate all of these kids so they cannot get the school whore pregnant at 13 and then no more idiot children would be born. Its the perfect solution.

i too have encountered this. Don't think this doesnt happen. I was approximately 13 at the time and it was the local gangsters on a rare break from prison lol.

sure the rest is scaremongering mostly and i certainly wouldnt lose sleep over it.
