Why the **** can't people drive?!

People don't think about driving, they merely operate their vehicles, the art of road craft is generally the last thing on many a motorists mind.....

Doing what I do for a living, I could probably add a situation for every one posted here and more! - Your spared, don't worry!:D - The UK is regarded as one of the better countrys of the world with regard to driving standards, that does not however mean imo that standards here are actually any good, I think there not.

Our roads are too congested with motorists the vast majority of whom have huge gaps in their knowledge of the roads - no motorway training for example - until this changes, I see things just getting worse.

Welcome to my world people!:(;)

A lot of motorists are too stubborn and automatically think that someone is getting one over on them especially when there is a merge lane at traffic lights.

Train horn is a good idea, just keep the original horn and map the train horn to a button somewhere on the dash or by the footwell for easy stamping!

There are youtube vids of train horns :p

Also, from this morning this Merc driver randomly attempted to pull out into the outside lane just before a roundabout, he was still I was moving up to the rondabout about 30mph. Had to do some quick dodging to avoid hitting as he suddenly pulled his nose out into my lane as I was about 1-2 car lengths away, didn't indicate or anything then ninjad back into his lane. Ass!

I will add my rant to this rant thread.. i live in an apartment which is part of a large complex. this has one road coming in and out and the road leads onto a cross roads with traffic lights (it used to be a round about that worked perfectly) Left goes towards the main road, right goes into a commericial centre and straight heads towards tescos and a large shopping area so on a saturday lots of traffic comes down the road which leads onto my cross roads.

I have right of way for both turning left and going straight as they are crossing into my lane to turn but the arrogant shoppers dont even see me and often just drive right at me or as i turn turn in at the same time. This has lead to many near misses and the council refuce to put up a oncoming vehicles have right of way sign.

It's only an issue when the fogs have been swapped with brighter bulbs that many barry boys decide to do.

OEM fogs rarely glare you in the eye even low cars...unless your eyesight is dodgy.

Whilst we're having a good rant, anyone come across the special breed of middle/outer lane numpty that appears to start manoeuvring back into the correct lane when they eventually notice you behind them, but instead of moving fully back they straddle both lanes for a while and then slowly drift out again?

It's not so much the glare. For me it's the fact there are 4 lights coming towards you in the distance rather than 2. It can be disorientating as you're thinking "is that 2 cars or just one boy racer with his fogs?" It makes overtaking harder. And then once they get close within a certain distance you've got twice the light coming towards you (fogs are omni directional, not a focused beam like dipped headlights) which on a rain droplet covered windscreen is just fabulous.

No, it can be a problem even with completely stock lamps. Ever wondered why the law prohibits operation of fog lights unless in conditions of severely reduced visibility? Think about for a little while, I'm sure the answer will come...unless your brain is dodgy ;)

Well I understand the law part but I was saying that not all fogs glare or cause a major issue even on low cars as they're not aimed upwards (as someone mentioned above).

I can understand how it would be confusing depending on road conditions of course but on the whole there is not a major problem with the lights themselves.

This doesn't mean I agree with people who drive with fogs on in non foggy conditions, it looks gay and sometimes wish I had a speakerphone with a pre-record profanity message just for these mother-foggers!

I drive through unlit country lanes and the extra barrage of lights from the fogs does not make life easy for me at all. If it's not foggy, don't have them on, it's as simple as that really.

Had a BMW driver undertake me on motorway and actually came into my lane alongside my car whilst he was doing it, i so wanted him to stop so i could give him a good beating, unfortunately we were on a motorway but i flashed lights at him for at least half a mile if he'd stopped i woud've just gone mental, he may not care about his own life but he shouldn't endanger mine, just goes to show that the BMW drivers are w****** stereotype is unfortunately true a lot of the time.

They are omni-directional.

I drive a low car and they cause issues on back roads to say the least. Do you actually drive a low car?

It is quite low...seating position is also very low.

Maybe you've just seen the worst offenders tbh :)

Did he make a big deal about undertaking you or was he in that lane for a good period of time?
