***Champions League R1 L2 - 10/11th March***

Convincing win from Liverpool but Real really have been far worse than i ever thought they could be over the 2 legs. Goes to show how far the prem is in front of the other leagues. I can see Barca getting a spanking off any of the English sides too.

they said it perfectly just then on the highlights, The real madrid team of today are overshadowed by the madrid we were used to in the past, but still in all fairness there still among the top teams in europe so the score was a little flattering

liverpool beat madrid 4-0, its hard to guess what the score would be if madrid played the mighty Middlesbrough

Unlikely. Barca are a much better side that Real. Real can play better than they played tonight but they are a spinless 'team', if you could call them that. They lack character and leaders on the pitch, a bit like Arsenal.

Anyway well done liverpool! They looked past the white shirt and took the game to Real and got the reward.

One question, WHY THE **** was Beletti not sent off for deliberate handball in the box? It was clearly on purpose and if it warranted a penalty it also warranted a red card.

Oh and I am so glad Bayern Munich did well. I had them tipped to win in style :D.

Real where pretty atrocious and the VERY dubious penalty meant game over (they where never going to score 3 away from home in the first place)

Well done to Liverpool but they wherent as good as all the reports are trying to suggest, its just RM has fallen a lot further

Cautious optimism over tonight at OT - Utd should have enough, but you never know how a referee/linesman can affect the result

Why can't we play like that week in week out. Sublime football. Well chuffed. Great game lads.

Could happen yet.

Seems to be a running theme in recent years, we start the season ok, go missing when the CL has it's winter break then suddenly outplay someone who are expected to spank us in the knockout stages and our season takes off from there...

If we could just manage to play for a full season we'd be sorted.

Raul missed one or two opportunities which could have been finished by most premier league strikers.

Raul was over rated even in his prime but he's stayed loyal so they love him no matter. Kind of like Liverpool fans and Kuyt :D

Before the tie everybody, other than Haydz, was saying that Real are playing amazing and they were going to knock us out, we go batter them and they're **** :D

Not everyone :p Go back to the first leg thread I said you would easily win it in there too.

Its a real shame that the Champs league is looking like another premiership lock down. For the neutral it really is boring and gives really boring ties. Especially as this season in the EPL the stadard of football and entertainment hasn't been as high as previous years imo.

I know it won't happen but if all four get through I'd like to see them paired up in the quarters or have 3 of the 4 knocked out.

Wow, well done Liverpool, was honestly pretty amazed when I saw the score. People might well be complaining about Real being weak, but at the end of the day it was Liverpool who made them look that way, and it's not like they're a nobody team nowadays.

Here's hoping we can do something similar to Roma tonight, although I have a horrible feeling it's going to be a painfully nervous 0-0 draw, ala our 05/06 run.

Just seen this on ESPN :D

“We started off on the wrong foot. Liverpool attacked well from the beginning, pressured us and were the superior team. It was the strangest thing I ever saw." Fabio Cannavaro --- Liverpool 4 Real Madrid 0 (5 - 0 agg) March 10th 2009

Lol

Because you don't play against a team full of over-rated players who think they're brilliant don't try and close you down and whose defence are slow and don't generally have a clue how to deal with pace. And up front they didn't do much either, just hopeful punts and flicks.

Could be... :p

Arsenal's side for tonight is :

Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Toure, Clichy, Nasri, Denilson, Song, Walcott, Van Persie, Eduardo, Fabianski, Djourou, Ramsey, Vela, Bendtner, Diaby, Eboue.

Toure apparently is fit which is good news. I'd like to see RvP and Eduardo start up front, and then Walcott to come in later on to take advantage of hopefully tired Roma legs by that time.

I'd go for the usual back 5, Nasri - Denilson - Diaby - Eboue, Eduardo - RvP. Walcott on for Eboue after 55 minutes. I can see Arsenal pressing hard for an early goal and then holding for about 30 minutes or so, try and grab another before half time and then bring Walcott on to end the game. I'll be surprised if Arsenal lose providing they play with the same intensity and passion in the 1st leg. The only way Arsenal will lose is due to slack play imo.

I'd prefer to see Vela instead of Eboue on the left if I'm honest. Roma should be a bit slower than Premiership opposition and allow him slightly more freedom. He had a good goal the other day in the FA cup, would love to see if, with a start, he can capitalise.

- - OShea - - - Rio - - Vidic- - - Evra- -

--- Park ----Carrick -----Scholes ----Ronaldo

-----------Rooney ------Berba----------

Although I wouldnt actually mind seeing Rooney play wide instead of Park and have Tevez upfront - although that wouldnt allow for any attacking changes if necessary after 60 mins or so.

It could also be the case of Park missing out with Rooney wide and a 5 man midfield with Fletcher, but I think we would be more attacking that that at OT (I would hope anyway)
