Arsenal fan stabbed in Rome

we got punished for the actions of a minority of fans after the Heysel incident. Fortunately there's been nothing of that magnitude since but you keep hearing about these incidents with Roma.

I agree they do seem prevalent, I'm just saying its a difficult decision to make. As i said earlier its easy to get rid of problems just hard to do it without infringing on people's liberty.

In the arse I bet.

That happened around here recently. If anybody knows Liverpool, it's why Walkabout has metal detectors by the entrance. :(

****ing ****ers in Rome btw. Absolute tossers.

But then again, common sense isn't a part of the football seniority's strong point either, they're hosting the World Cup in South Africa!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that this has the potential to go memorably wrong.

Also, why do people compare it to the Heysel incident? That was in the stadium and 39 people died.

I'd love a world cup in SA, it's just not sorted itself out yet, and I don't think it will fairly soon.

The fines imposed on european football just boggle the mind. Rangers and Osasuna get fined thousands of pounds for secterian singing, yet someone gets stabbed in rome and roma get naff all?

does blatter and platini hate UK football that much?

I'm personally not up for waiting for something like that to happen again before we take action. It took english football 2 disasters to sort itself out but i'd rather be a lot more proactive in preventing future incidents rather than potentially allowing them to happen and then using it as a catalyst for change.

Not only is it the most crime-ridden country in the World, but when they're trying to push for equality and fight racism in the game they host it in what is undoubtedly the most racist country in the world. It's ridiculous. The didn't even have the stadia required, nor the transport lines to accomodate it. If you look around the world there are several countries very equipped to do this, primarily in Europe and you wouldn't be worried about crime.

 SA is not the most crime-ridden country in the world. Also what makes you think its the most racist country in the world? I don't think this can even be calculated, but I'd say Russia was worse.

Are you opposed to the World Cup in Brazil as well?

You're perhaps right on the other things required to host a tournament, but I'd say most racist country in the world is pushing it a bit.

UEFA are a bunch of cowards, FIFA too. Can you imagine the uproar if an English club had all these stabbings occur in and around around their stadium? The violence inside the stadium? The sub standard level of policing in which they beat away fans for nothing more than being attacked by the home fans? The whole thing is a joke. Roma should be banned from European competition, their city and stadium should be banned from holding any form of European match until they can demonstrate that matters are in hand. You only have to look at their domestic games in which people get stabbed every other week to know it's more than just waiting for the English teams to come in, they stab fellow Italians. But as there is no backbone or integrity at the top levels of football authority, nothing will be done until a major incident happens. And that's the saddest thing about it all.

Not a surprise at all unfortunately and I think they have to lose the CL Final after this, as they need to be taught a lesson.

I hope the geezer is alright.

Agree.
Roma fans have a really bad reputation and for good reason.

Ban them from ALL European competitions, It's the only way they will learn that violence at football games shouldn't happen.

They should be banned, if that was liverpool v roma and loads of their fans got stabbed platini and the other idiot would take great joy in banning all english clubs from any and every competition under the sun.

If any of the english sides make to the final this year, it could be really bad :(

Not at all. But considering SA is still a country deep in violence and it is massively racist, surprising considering the balance of Black to White citizens, which isn't the case in Russia.

If I could pick one major country not to host it, it would have been SA.

Brazil don't have stadia of a high enough standard, same with Argentina, but I bet the atmospheres would be incredible.

I think it's that they think the English teams "buy" success more thank the likes of Italy and Spain and that's what they hate.

They've always hated on English teams. They never had a problem when it was Italian teams or Spanish teams buying people up like no tomorrow and winning everything. Hell, Blatter is an honerary member of Real Madrid.

There was a good article in a paper last week by a Sports Journalist regarding Platini and how at first he wasn't sure whether Platini was racist, but then after looking at the facts concluded that, that was definitely the case.

I loved the quote at the bottom of the article "...they could be stripped of the showpiece if any serious acts of hooliganism occur before the May 27 game." A coach got boarded, the windows got smashed, a flare was let off inside the coach and a fan got stabbed... how much more serious does hooliganism have to get before they decide to act? Or is it a case of UEFA saying its only Italian fans, they are passionate after all...

I find it amazing that it never made the news that one of our aircraft had to be surrounded by police at manchester due to inter fans kicking off and having and using cocaine aboard an aircraft.

Reverse that to manu fans doing the same in italy and Sepp Blatter would never have shut up.
