LOTR Blu-ray?

I thought Peter Jackson has been using RED cameras for about 10 years.. could be wrong though.. I know 'King Kong' was filmed on RED...

Since when?

Since it has been known about for a long time - there was a thread that went into quite detailed depth that some gentleman on here made but I cannot find it - if someone else can find it that would be greatly appreciated

That doesn't make sense, you would transfer film to digital at full 4k resolution to create the digital master and then reduce the resolution later, you would not scan and edit the film at a low resolution as that would result in artifacts.

What I am saying is a lot of the films were transfered from film to digital in the DVD era, and they were transfered in DVD resolution. These files were than upscaled later to 720/1080P for the BluRay market because

A)Film companies were lazy

B)It still produced a better picture than DVD, as old TVs couldn't completely display full DVD resolution. So it did look better than DVD.

What I was pointing out was companies to get full HD quality from films shot on film, they would have to rescan the entire film at 4K or 2K. That thread that I mentioned goes into quite a bit of detail about this. They should have scanned at 4K at the time for DVD and downscaled - but as usual it wasn't seen that we would need a higher resolution.

They had two options, upscale the DVD file (a lot quicker) or rescan all from scratch. I guess when they had BluRay vs HDDVD it was just a battle to get as much out into their respective catalogues and choose the quick and easy route.

I read the 1st one is coming out the end of this year on blu-ray.com. New Line may well do what they did with the DVD release. (standard disc then the extended SE 6 months later) or they will release all 3 when the Hobbit comes to the Cinema.

how long did it take for star wars to come out on DVD. I can see LORT taking a while same as star wars (& when will that be on blu?). lucky if this year, but i doubt it

I thought they were supposed to be out end of this year just not the extended cuts....which are being held back until after the release of the Hobbit?

That winds me up. It's not like everybody who cares doesn't own the extended DVDs now. Who's going to buy the theatrical releases? Bah.

Isn't the hobbit set for release in 2012?!
