Hi there,

Just built myself a beast of a PC. Looking to get a decent pad so that I can play Burnout on my PC.

I was wondering... Does Vista have native support for the Xbox controller, or do you have to install a driver and associated horrible app which sits in the background consuming CPU time and RAM?

Cheers

XBOX 360 controller is fully supported on Vista. I believe it auto-installs and you can install an app. Basically I believe the app is for if you want to use more than one controller but it is absolutely tiny.

Best pad out there IMHO.

Vista has native support for the 360 controller so you should be fine. It mainly depends on the game itself i.e. all Games For Windows labelled titles support it out of the box. Older games with crap overall gamepad support may require fiddling i.e. games that annoyingly switch between the two analogue sticks are the biggest pain in the arse.

if it's the USB controller you have, then just plug it in and run windows update

if it's a wireless one, you'll need the wireless USB receiver thingy, thne run windows update

nothing eating resources tbh

Download the Xbox360_64Eng.exe from MS as its an update & will give you an on-screen battery level indicator & other options when you press the middle X button & it also works for the wired pad for the other options that it comes with.

I have rumble support on TDU. I don't know why it just works.

I use the USB connected pad though if that makes any difference.

heard someone else claim this but don't see how it's possible without xbcd drivers.

Well I installed the software, connected the gamepad, installed the update and then installed the game and ran.

Worked without changing anything else.

One of my best game purchases to date! Plug in, worked without any updates, rumble support, and automatically adjusted menus for games that support it.

would you mind listing your steps exactly please. ie. which software you installed, which update etc.
