what are these like on long drives?? lol

we have been offered one to take on the student breakaway and are really tempted even if it is shocking on long trips. whats your thoughts? would it make it? its a red top vauxhall 2l engine :D

The furthest I've been in it is a 200 round trip with a 45 min break in the middle (SVA retest) - it was fine - could have done another couple of hundred tbh.

Come the summer, I have a road trip to Inverness planned - about a 900 round trip.

My friend took his to Lemans (from Blackpool) last year - said it was no problem.

New wheels look great. If you don't mind me asking how much did it cost to build and get it road legal ? I have been thinking of building up a kit car for a bit of track and summer use.

EDIT actually read the full post 7k is not bad.

A massive improvement over the tonka toy wheels :D

Not 100% convinced on the black though, I would have been tempted with a lighter colour, especially with the black cycle wings. Then again I don't think your pic is really doing them full justice.

Want some advice?
Take the road to Andermatt and follow it.
You'll come back engaged to the car ready to settle down and have a couple of little starter motors between you.

Taken today after a wash. Actually, I think I need to invest in a better camera. Colour options are just black, white and silver on the Pro Races.

White would look weird with yellow, silver would look ok, but black goes really well with yellow, just look at bee's and wasps! :D

I'm sure someone on here could photoshop the wheels silver tho if you wanted to see how they suit. :)

Nope - I like the black :-) It was always going to have black wheels on it - at some point :-)

Old wheels and tyres weigh 20kg - new wheels weigh 14 kg :-) That's 24kg for the whole car but they say weight saved on the wheels is like x4 saved anywhere else - so I've shaved the equivalent of nearly 100kg from a car that only wieghed 605kg in the first place!
So you're saying you've dropped 24kg from your car, and now have the equivelant of a near 20% increase in your power-to-weight ratio?

No, power to weight ratio doesn't take into account rotating mass. A car that weighs 1000kg with wheels that weigh 10kg and a power of 200bhp will still have the same power-to-weight ration as a car that weighs 1000kg with wheels weighing 20kg and a power of 200bhp. BUT the car with 10kg wheels will accelerate (and stop) quicker.

Went our for a country lane blat last night and they are good :-) Even comfier as well :-) Came into work in it as well today :-)

I did mean the equivelant of a near-20% power-to-weight ratio increase, as your post implied. But, I just can't see it. I think 4x as valuable as chassis weight is way over the top.

Unsprung weight is hugely more important than sprung weight - keeping it as low as poss as amingafan says.

One other point of note - its not particularly clever to go shouting about making "illegal" post SVA mods (with pics) on the internet, both the DVLA and insurance companies DO trawl the internet for such posts and then catch you out, you might think not posting your reg number protects you but it doesnt, your IP is logged and OCUK would be legally obliged to hand it over, a little bit of searching (which they are paid to do) can cause you a whole world of pain.

Very true, someone on PH is now entering a world of pain from the DVLA after his car was featured in a magazine. Shame they don't have the same enthusiasm to keep uninsured drivers off the road.
