Calm pills

There are plenty of anti anxiety and stress techniques that you can learn (breathing exercises etc...) Would suggest you go and read up on these... are much better than the herbal pills and non prescription stuff you can get.

From experience (On and Off I suffer from night time GAD, Panic Attacks and Insomnia) "herbal" and non-prescription pills do bugger all, And the really "good" stuff that will calm you down comes with warnings a mile long... one being not to drive

My friend used Kalms after he failed the first, he passed the second time. Pretty sure you can get them anywhere - Boots, superdrugs, supermarkets or any health food store.

You need to learn how to control your nerves without taking any pills / drugs / medication otherwise when you are in a really high stress / high pressure situation you will fold. Trust me there are things that are a lot more stressfull than a driving test in this world and you need to be able to teach yourself how to cope with lifes stresses without the need for drugs unless you have a really serious medical condition then you need to see your GP before opping pills that your mates recomend to you

Do you think he would have passed his test if you slipped him a couple of tic tacks and told him they were Kalms too?

Best not taking anything and learning to overcome it. If you're like this on a test, imagine what you'd be like on a busy motorway...

I was carping myself at the start, but just started some banter with the examiner, calmed me down and passed first time :D

Surely you wouldnt still be nervous? If you know how to drive and have had a lot of experiance you should be fine. I was very nervous on my first test and thats why I failed, second werent so nervous but still failed, finally third test knew exactly what to expect and done everything fine and passed. Maybe its different for some people but there are a lot of other advice in this thread about how to go about calming yourself down and I do not think going down the drug route is a good one.

I think that's a bit too harsh MookJong, comparing every day life with being blown up in Afghanistan, and q bit fact unreasonable to expect people to just "suck it up and move on". Life is complicated, the human psyche is complicated, and some people suffer genuine bouts of nerves through no fault of their own which can't just be remedied by turning on a switch in the back of your head. What seems simple to you and me is not the same for others. :)

Nerves and anxiety are usually based on perspective. The smaller the world you live in inside your head the bigger your problems will seem. I was trying to give the OP some shock treatment to jolt him back to reality.

My mate eats kalms like skittles,he says they work brilliantly but im not to sure :/ Never took them as im not a nervous person.

Driving test coming up soon. I have failed 3 times. My nerves just get the better of me.

People have said to take 'Calm pills'

1. Do you suggest these?

2. What are they actually called?

3. Where can I get them?

Cheers

I took them once and noticed no difference ,one of my ex's took valuim before her test and calmly run a red light .

You need to be fully alert for your test just try and think if I pass great if not oh well ......try and pretend to yourself you don't care when you get in the car .

I passed my driving test 10 years ago and haven't experienced nerves like it since. Couldn't eat, couldn't even drink a can of Coke. My leg was shaking at the start, felt sick.

My advice is to avoid any pills. Those Kalms did make me sleepy on a drive once. I think you'll just have to live with the nerves. The good news is once you get going and your mind is on the driving they disappear a bit.

Good luck! :)

With due respect - if you can't pass your test yet, you aren't ready to have your full license. I honestly think the difference between my ability and nerves on my first time, to my second attempt after more practise was like night and day. Don't be in a rush to pass before you are ready - you need to be safe when you get that pass, most importantly. :)

kalms are a total waste of time in expierience. herbal rubbish

OP i can understand being nervous the first time but after three times surely you know the process of whats going to happen etc. are you sure its just nerves ? are you generally nervous in other situations ?

do a local search on yell.com for a hypnotherapist. one session should be enough :)

Had a friend who failed 5 times due to nerves and one session helped her pass!

Not true at all. I've known people who have been more than capable drivers during their lessons and would have easily passed a test, however due to nerves they failed several times.

Failing because you are nervous doesn't mean you are not a good driver, it just means that you don't like test conditions.

That's what I'm saying, you should be able to cope with the nerves before they let you out on the road. Driving under stress is a good test of ability and people should be able to drive under those conditions, imo of course.

If you're really worried about it you have three options.

1: Don't drive.
2: Try and get a good nights sleep before the test and remember it's not the end of the world if you fail - I thought I'd failed early in my test and actually enjoyed it after that :p
3: See your Doc although I suspect he won't be able to help much.
