What is your favourite MMO?

EVE. Greatest MMO ever, havn't played it for about a year though... :(

What did you find great if you dont mind me asking? I normally like space games but this was quite dull. And really didnt like the combat system. I am sure there is more to it but I didnt find it interesting to play. Not alone pay to play.

EVE. Never has doing nothing for hours on end been so compelling.

Why?

EVE really is all about player interactions, socially/politically as well as in combat. The combat system isn't for everyone, but the fact that it has real consequences in terms of assets (and hence time) destroyed and gained makes it far more compelling than the grind-based PvP in games like WoW.

Also, I'm not sure I understand your criticism of it being point-and-click... so are WoW and most other MMOs.

Well with it being a space game, I would like to take control of the ship and fly it. Just thought that would be nice to do and in my opinion would be fun.

I am sure others like yourself like it, just wasnt for me.

I've been always been much more of a Korean MMO fan/player myself, especially ever since Ragnarok Online. I really love the colourful look of that game as it reminds me of JRPGs from the SNES days, and the melodic techno music suits the mood too.

RF Online was another that I spent a lot of time on. It had so much potential with its Sci-Fi, almost Phantasy Star Online-ish theme and an interesting backstory, but just a shame it didn't take off too well with the English versions. Lack of any real updates and constant unbalances really broke the game down. But never in any other MMO have I seen such large scale "no-limit" player PVP system which would literately lag up most people's computer systems and fill their screens. Honestly this game was really made for Korea's fast online Internet connection and not ours.

Sword of the New World - Granado Espada. From the former creator of Ragnarok Online, this game was really interesting especially for its multi-character control system and a wonderful theme that sets it apart from the usual Dungeons and Dragons Medieval Norse mythology crap that plagues most Western MMOs/RPGs. The alternate reality New World/America/Classical Baroque theme was such a breath of fresh air, especially with the colourful and stylish Anime graphics and of course, the appropriate music to suit it. Some of which also done by the same team that did the soundtrack to Ragnarok.

Final Fantasy XI, being one of the few well known Japanese MOOs was really good too for the few months that I played it. Really huge world bought forth by the many expansion packs this game has, and lots of different classes that fit in well with the classic Final Fantasy mould (Black Mage). Just a shame I do not have the time for it though as this game really requires it. Its like Japan's own Lineage II basically.

Travian > Actually quitted playing after 2 years, seriously addictive

Guild Wars > Love the concept, love the game

WoW > Great game, must be taken in small doses :D

ffxi for sure got super addicted to that - i loved the massive original world - the challenging missions and bosses especialy chains of promathia expansion. also the storylines and very group centric content. even the pvp was fun and it barely had any pvp lol

My Fav was prolly the first one I really sank any time into and stopped playing CS/CS:S for.

Dark Age of Camelot - Pre Trail of Atlantis.

I loved that games and I still think Darkness falls is one of the best idea's for a dungeon, problem was after TOA I just spent all my time farming high end scroll with my Necro and a mates repec'ed cleric, which got old.

Never realy enjoyed anything the same since. Currently playing WAR but I'm finding it a little hard going, I enjoy T1 and T2 but the grind from T3-T4 has so far beaten me, hence I have a level 17-20 a lot of most class's.

I have Darkfall to try but I aren't sure about it yet, there are too many things that look and feel wrong. It has potential but I wouldn't be suprised if it goes under before that potential is realised.

I'm almost tempted to put WoW back on, god forbid! I wish I had just sold the accounts to temptation was removed :P

Cheers.

Warhammer Age of Reckoning. Great Game. Not as time as consuming as WOW. Graphics are nice. Its got some bugs that need clearing up. Good PVP fun. I never PVP'd much in WOW though but hey you get XP for PVP'ing here so.. :)

WOW. Hardcore raiding for 2 years. I had a great time and many great memories playing that game. I had the priveledge of being a GM in a top guild on an average server. One thing to note and thats not to say I regretted it, but it took a lot of time. Way too much time if you wanted success for all your guildmates. But I had loads of fun and met many nice people too. And Whiners. hehehe Regretted selling my account sometimes... but hey life goes on!

Why?

It's the only MMO that's ever managed to get my pulse racing and have real exictment during a fight, plus the outcome has real risk/reward.

Then you've all the multiple levels of player interaction, empire building, spying, industry/crafting and OMG DRAMA!

It is a shame some of the basic gameplay dynamics are pretty dull, certainly from a newbie perspecive the ship flying/trading/combat can be super boring but actaully they are not that important once you get into the "real" game.

At the moment it's Darkfall Online, but I'm having a bit of my own marmite situation with it.

I don't enjoy it at all unless I'm out with my guild doing guild events, If no one is online all I do is try and level up fishing/cooking and my lesser magic and it bores the hell out of me. my tailor skill requires cloth which I need to grind but my new location means I don't know where to go and I'm not really into scouting.

It's really fun going out with the guild though, I'm just waiting until we have our player built city so I can find my own niche and develop from their.

Previous to that It's got to be WoW before any expansions, Loved it.

Played all the main ones of the last 10 years or so including a few obscure ones and I'd say Eve was the best. Incredibly deep and a true 'do as you want' MMO. The politics, the fact everyone is on the same server adds to the intensity also. There is just nothing else out there like it.

Guild Wars would be runner up, although not really a full blown MMO but I really loved that game for many reasons. I loved the world, mission structure, PvP etc and being free to play (after buying the box) it was probably the best value for money game I've ever played. EQII and Lotro are also worth a mention as I have given them a fair bit of my time too.

Lineage 2 for me. Got to like level 72 i think. Most of my best gaming time has gone into this game. Looks great, gameplay is great AND most of all open PVP, which is great but also can be horrible. LOVED that game, i just wish i still had time to play it.

If we are talking favourite MMO ever (rather than currently), then I am going to have to say UO , pre-trammel. Better than any other MMO I ever played by a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way. A level of freedom in an MMO that imo has been unmatched ever since, even now 12 years later MMOs are still lacking many of the features that UO had 12 years ago.

An MMO where you truly were part of a breathing world, with an unprecedented level of freedom. Want to have a character who never needs to fight anything, no problem you could do that. Want to tame a dragon and have it as a pet to fight for you, no problem you could do that. Want to steal items from peoples backpacks, no problem you could do that. Want to murder another players character, cut their body up, cook their flesh and eat it, no problem you could do that. Want to run your own player run town, with a tavern that is open to the public and manned by proper tavern "staff", no problem you could do that. Want to run a private shop in a building ingame, with npc staff working for you in the shop selling your items while you are offline to passers by ingame, no problem you could do that. Want to own your own ship and sail the seas, fishing up treasure maps which you then "solve" and go dig up the treasure and fight the defending creatures, no problem you could do that. Want to dye not only your clothing, but also your furniture and crafted items, no problem you could do that. Want to write stories in ingame books, that other players can open up and read, no problem you could do that.

The gameplay options were more variable and free than any MMO then or since has ever come close to.
