While I'm not advocating treating intruders to tea and crumpets we don't actually know at this stage if it was a break in or not (as you have admitted details are scarce). I'd still have to suggest that even if it was a burglary that it wouldn't excuse killing someone (without threat to life i.e. acting in self defence) but at the stage of information we've got you can't even say that it was a burglary - some of the comments on Facebook might suggest that he has committed other burglaries but that does not imply that it was the case here.

It isn't all that hard to think of scenarios where someone could have been legitimately on the property of someone else before the situation turned nasty, that is one very good reason why there should not be an absolute right to use lethal force in your own home and claim it as self defence - I tried to highlight this on the first page.

I like the idea that because everyone is posting on the internet, they are all scared fools who'd urinate themselves and play dead.
I'd imagine we're all pretty average people and you really couldn't say you'd know what you would do. You probably wouldn't grab a knife and recreate a famous shower scene screaming for mother... Likewise, you probably wouldn't whimper and hide.
Most of the experiences here just seem to be a "wtf?" kind of reaction, good old burglars...

On the contrary, I'd do whatever it takes to protect my family - you dont know me nor I you, so dont pre judge based on 'an internet forum' - I was mearly getting my opinion across.

In answer to the killing question, probably not - death is an easy way out to me.

It's not murder, you are legally justified to kill someone if you are endangered.

Legal justification or not, I can't see myself plunging a knife through someone's flesh. I doubt I would even consider standing there thinking about the legal ramifications either.

Yeah, some people seem to take the 'we're dweebs on a message board' thing a little too far. We're human just like everyone else, would you believe it or not

I would imagine a good number of us would go for the nearest sharp/blunt object in a moment's panic.

I don't know how this standard of English could ever be seen as acceptable, to "those people" it's the way forward so it seems.
It's surely difficult to make the majority of your words wrong?

I wouldn't say its an unfounded idea. Most people in my experience who attempt to big themselves up in conversation are usually full of **** when it comes to the real thing. Likewise, a bunch of people saying on a forum how they'd take no nonsense and go all Rambo on the criminals shouldn't really be taken too seriously.

Spur of the moment thing I guess and it would depend on plenty of different factors. I;m sure there are plenty of people who will find out, it's not exactly a rare crime.

But hopefully within an actual situation, they would understand that conflict is best avoided and that its better to lose a PS3 instead of having one of your eyes stabbed out.

The only think I could say for certain I'd try to do is call the police.

I think it's a combination of "text talk" and some degenerate version of English actually typed out phonetically which is almost as appalling as the reason this thread was started.

It's unfortunate that if this kid has been brought up a little better, hung around with different people then maybe he wouldn't have been involved in crime and he'd still be around.

Well, when I caught the two ****s burgling my house. The one that I managed to hold onto, the other ran away like a chicken**** coward, was held on the floor with his hands behind his back and my knee in the back of his neck whilst the police were called.

When the police eventually turned up and informed me that they couldn't arrest him as it would just cause more trouble from the ****** who were camped on the old football ground at the time and that I was to let him go!

Trust me, if it happens again I won't be phoning the police. The scum will be dealt a good beating, stripped naked and driven out to some deserted spot in the Country and left there.
