Newborn tax?

Actually, I'm quite surprised by the replies. I guess if people are happy to raise other peoples children for free. Who am I to say no? Silly me.

Welcome to GB, roll on the chavs

we already do, the only people to suffer under this will be the children. The parents won't do with out their stella and white lightening.

More like: "Welcome to the internet, clueless dim people who are convinced that they have a good idea, and won't entertain the fact that what they are saying is stupid."

They do, and I am not happy paying for 10 kids in free housing with free healthcare and education paid for by me. A £1500 tax per baby should make them think twice and only have what they can afford :p

Everyone is like this of, course. And every young woman we see with a baby in the town in the daytime is a young chav on benefits with a free house.

No, sorry but your idea is daft, it is penalising parents with common sense and will do NOTHING to curb out the chav population simply because after the initial 1500, they will make that up within a year easily I bet, while do you have idea how much it costs to bring up a child to a normal family where both partners work full time just to afford a mortgage?

Alternatively they should tax the working populace to the hilt to help the baby factories buy fags and new flat screen TV's etc etc.

That sounds more like a dictatorship to me.
And we're not in a dictatorship now?

It makes sense to me. If you can't afford to support a child by yourself without relying on state income, you aren't allowed to have children.

So what if they can't pay? You don't deliver the baby?

Completely unworkable scheme.
Enforcing it is where it gets tricky. If you have an unlicenced child, you lose benefits, healthcare, have the child taken off you, etc.

Of course it's largely unworkable, but its the kind of system we need really. We're almost in a big brother state, why not just go the whole hog.

Of course the baby will be delivered, but it will also have an invoice with him/her from HMRC

It will then be taken from benefits at a slow rate e.g. £1 per week.

It occurred to me that large chav families are partly the result of free baby delivery.

In other countries, they charge for delivery as it is private, £300 upwards. If we implemented such a tax (deducted from benefits if necessary), it would shift the burden of education/health resources to the people actually using them reducing the tax burden of the single person or childless couple, and indirectly confirming to the population they can afford the child in the first instance.

In turn, it would encourage fewer chav offspring/lower population (always a good thing), less environmental damage in terms of food resources needed, less greenhouse emissions, more green belt, cheaper property etc.

I propose the tax be set at £1500 per newborn as taxing the rich/companies further just squeezes the working man more as the rich/companies just offset this by charging us more :)

Yes that would go down well. Only the rich can have children.

Plus it wouldnt stop "chavs" having children

Maybe you should live in China where there is a little more control over population.

You mean only the rich can have more children. The humble chav will be faced with ever diminishing benefits with each new child to pay for the childs upbringing.

How about just encouraging people to be responsible for, and actually pay for, their own children's upkeep, rather than expecting the Government to do it for them.

That makes almost as much sense as china's "one child per family" law.

However, taking it to extremes, all adults should be genetically tested, and mandatory steralisation for anybody found to be sub-standard (to be determined by some sciencey bloke)

And then, they may only spawn, if they get a license from the government.
