NEC Good Customer Service forces gfx upgrade!

I have the 20WGX2, great monitor, my three year warranty is up in June so I hope it stays all good, same cant be said of my brothers 20WGX, his has developed some kind of water mark across the top of the screen just like the one in the above screens. He phoned NEC up today and they are sending him out a monitor by TNT for tomorrow, they will pick up the duff one the next day, no mention of what it is but I gather it is their 24" top model, as it has to be of similar value and spec of the one it is replacing and that 24" is the only one that comes close to the 20WGX2. NEC, superb customer service.

Hey guys how are you getting on with the replacement 24WMGX3 ?

And just wondering if everyone who has sent their Gx2 back got a Gx3 ?

I'm really thinking of phoning then tomorrow, the lines on my screen are getting annoying in some games

Jamrasta, do you use a really dark Windows theme? I have dark grey title bars and there is a similar dark strip across the top... this is on a 5 year old Dell 2001FP though!

Considering getting the GX3 as the reviews are really good...

I love this Wgx2, but these lines on the screen are just annoying in some games. Just hoping I wont be disappointed if i get the wgx3 replacement :-)

OK, so the 24WMGX3 arrived yesterday. TNT picked up the old one today.

Wow, very nice monitor. Would definitely recommend it. Nice upgrade from the GX2. Image & colour quality very good (I'm fortunate enough to have a Spyder 2 to calibrate it with).

Games look amazing, almost too big :) Extra desktop space is very welcome in Eclipse or Visual Studio for programming & outlook finally has enough screen space to be usable ;)

Bought a GTS250 to go with it & also very happy with this. Everything seems to run native res with all the detail up high or max. Very smooth.

As I said when I opened the thread. I'd take advantage of a warranty swap if your monitor is defective.

I'll sure be buying NEC in the future that's for sure.

I've had a slight problem with it for a while. It i'll post some screenys later. It looks almost like my screen is stained, i've got a dark vertical line on the left had side and a horizontal line across the top. Its not got worse but i paid £400 plus Oct 2006 i think. It can get a bit annoying when playing a game with bright colours.

What screen did you get as a replacement ? i'm awaiting a replacement gfx from bfg as that died as well :o

My 20WGX2 has developed a dark 'watermark/stain' as well, I was wondering whether to try to get it replaced or not but now I definitely will - that's fantastic customer service.

I take it I'll need to contact NEC directly rather than OCUK?

Raven, which monitor did your brother end up getting as a replacement?

Good news :)

I'd been wanting an upgrade to a 24in monitor for a while (to stretch out the old 4870x2 properly), but I'd never imagined I might be able to get it for free. I'll call NEC first thing in the morning :D

He got the 24WMGX3 he's really pleased with it, new upgrade with only a few month left on the warranty, cant be bad lol.

Yeah, I bet you're jealous of him now.

Please break, I demand you break now dam 20Wgx2! :(

Haha, you need to browse the internet more - I can see the outline of my browser's favourites bar and the icons if there's a particularly solid and bright colour at the top of my screen (eg. blue sky in some games). Though there's also a weird splodge of a shape coming down from that bar so I guess it marks randomly as well.

Pretty much always got the start bar and windows dark grey. With my screen it almost looks like water has got into it and run down the screen even though I never use anything like that to clean it;)

Did NEC ask you for your purchase order receipt / invoice, I can't find mine.

When I called them earlier the only things they asked me for were the model and serial numbers (and the description of the problem, obviously). They then asked if I could take pictures of the problem (dull 'stained' marks), email them to them (using [email protected]) with the monitor details (model, serial, stand, bezel colour) and my contact details. Which I have just done.

Cool, thats easier than trying to explain over the phone. I'll sort this out when I get home :D

They got back to me pretty quickly, my replacement monitor should be delivered on Friday and the old one collected Monday :)

They didn't say which monitor I would be getting as a replacement though, I'll wait and see I guess...

I've been toying with the idea of getting the 24WMGX3 for ages now, how does the image quality compare to the 20WGX2? I LOVE WGX2, think it looks great and don't want to be disappointed if i do take the plunge...
