Does Empire Total war use Quad core ?

Runs like a dream on a Q6600 at 3.4, with a 4870, but by god the campaign map gets my graphics card nice and toasty, its sounds like a bloody hoover!

I have checked and its not at full tilt, so I guess its not hurting the card, just very noisy. Probably not helped by the game being fairly quiet, normally an intensive game would have some loud sound effects with it too I suppose.

I too was sceptical about the time frame, being a big fan of the Medieval period (although possibly this is a result of too many hours on MTW), but I've easily been converted, this really does feel like a step forward to me as I was starting to tire of RTW and M2TW as all a bit similar

The main problem i have seen with this game is the lack of Unique units like the other games.

Although saying that i havnt played it for very long.

My CPU clocked itself back to 2.83Ghz last night without me realising for a while. The loading and gameplay was really really affected! Good thing for this overclock. Can't wait for the multi core patch!

I have a 4870 and mine too sounds like a damn hoover on the campaign map. I imagined that it would have been the battle map that would have stressed the card but mine mimics an hoover just sat there on the CM.

I have not read anything about multi-core support possibly being offered. For those who have could you please "link me up".

It came from CA a few days after release. Someone else will have to find the link though.

No idea what it is about the campaign map. It is supposed to get fixed in a patch...no idea if this will reduce the load on the graphics card though.

Theres a few uniques, but largely its due to the era rather than the game. This is an era where more and more countries were moving towards a standardised professional standing army and so many countries effectively had the same kind of military as their neighbour , just with different uniforms. Similar to today really.

Having loads of unique units wouldn't make much sense for this era. As Tombstone says most countries had evolved towards same arms and tactics by then.

BTW there are some subtle differences between line infantry stats and unit sizes. British have good reload, morale, and defence. French are better in charges etc. Austrian line infantry pretty much inferior in all respects the poor buggers.

I missed this at the time, hence replying to the old thread. Patch 1.3 added multi-thread support plus some other optimisations. Performance doubled with many Quad / Tri Core CPUs compared to version 1.0.

The optimisations even gave a few single core a few extra frames per second.

If anyone is pre-ordering napoleon total war on steam and gets a spare Medievel2: Total War would you bear me in mind? I'll be very grateful.
