Thats a batter comparison for this thread really as that E36 would look nasty even if it had real gold :p

The silver trim looks a lot better to me. What is the difference between the cars ? as the steering wheel looks better in the wood trimmed car which I assume is your dads 530d however I thought that was a SE ?

Is that just a bad picture or is the interior really that nasty. The steering wheel looks aweful :(

It must be a bad picture then, as the S-class is sold world round for having the nicest interior (and ride etc) in the world. (Bar extreme examples, granted :)) Another angle albeit on a rubbish camera with bad colour repro Note that the steering wheel is obviously parked in these pictures hence the angle which it is at.

Anyway, point is that i like wood fittings in interiors, i cannot be the only one given that its a standard fitting in virtually every luxury vehicle, and imitated regularly in cheaper stuff.

I'm not knocking the build quality etc. Just think the wood looks a little tacky. Then again that's probably because I've only really seen fake wood rather than the real thing.

That's fair enough, different strokes and all that. Just not for me, I see your interior which looks otherwise very nice, but then the wood really puts me off, especially on the steering wheel. It looks as though Mercedes thought "Well wood = posh, so lets shove some wooden inserts on the dash". Fair enough if you like it, but I don't think its an option I would choose.

It really doesn't look anything like for example rover 400 wood in real life, as with everything its the fake imitations which spoil it for everyone else :(

Mine is a 530i Sport, his is a 530d SE. When new, his was specified with the M-Tech steering wheel, mine had it as standard. The difference in wheel is because there was a minor interior change for cars built after November 2001.

Although mine was registered at the end of December 01, it's an October 01 build so it missed out on the new wheel.

I did actually buy a facelift wheel and fitted it, but it was faulty and the guy on Ebay is now scamming me out of both the wheel and the £250

wood interiors look so dated, real or fake :(

do any new "luxury cars" still come with wood panel interiors?!

That tall gearstick is downright nasty.

Why don't they just stick to the shortened one and be done with it?

Yes, virtually all of them. It's so dated that even a 2009 S Class has it.

It's obviously not as contemporary as Tartan seats but you cant have everything :D

Only because they are aimed at your grandad ;)

just looked at the 2009 S class interior, man that's ugly.

then again I could see my grandad loving it :D

Have you contacted Aston and Bentley etc to tell them to perhaps re-think their interior wood panelling choice by the way? They are sure to change it when they hear that a student off the internet thinks that their cars are for grandad's only ;)

I really like the wood in my 5 series. It looks miles better than the ally trim in my sister-in laws dads one. I wasnt 100% on wood when buying but im glad i have it now.

I'm just a bit too old to claim student status, and obviously far too young to appreciate the fake wood look... :)

I will admit that a nice genuine bit of walnut does do it for me.. :)
