280gtx or 260gtx?

Thanks reflux. The gtx260 I saw elsewhere is an XFX and has high memory/core clock speeds :)
I hope it has enough power for a 24".

For gods sake don't get an overclocked XFX card. Please please please do not make that mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are XFX cards poor? I think I am going with BFG for my next card as I like the idea of a really solid 10 year warranty.

Go for the Zotac 260 for £135incl in the This Week Only Deal. It should come with either Grid or FarCry2.

If you are going with the 192 core version you should also consider the Radeon 4850 as it seems to be in the same league. With regards your question, go for a 65nm 216 Core 260 and OC it as high as you can. It will end up near the 280 performance wise and save you a good few pounds. If you don't want to overclock yourself the BFG OCX, XFX Black, Zotac AMP and EVGA SSC all give decent OC's (around 10%) out the box :)

Is it worth paying an extra £50 or so for a BFG 260/216 or is the Zotac 260/192 better value at £135?

I'm pondering that myself - thinking of buying two 260s for SLi, but want to get 'em cheap as possible.

According to a bit of Google searching, the 192 core cards are only about 5% slower than the 216s, so the £35 price increase isn't worth it IMO.

No it isn't.

I used to run dual 4850's and although that was slightly faster than a 192sp 260 (worse min framerates though) a single one was nowhere near it... especially at higher res.

Correctomundo! :D Wish i hadn't bought my £148 B-Grade card a week and a bit ago! :(

SLi on the super cheap.

A friend of mine has just bought one of these.
So I can "rib him good" - what is bad about the XFX pre-overclocked cards?

Failure rate and abissmal warranty service.

Okay if you buy one from ocuk as they deal with the warranty themselves and was the only way they agreed to sell XFX again.

Buy anywhere else and expect to wait weeks to get your card back.

so are the Zotac's at £135 65nm or 55nm? If the 65nm cards can oc better than the 55nm ones and the 192 pipes are only 5% slower than the 216 pipe versions then would the Zotac rival a 280 (near enough)???

WHo said they overclock better? I would disagree with that statement.

Well I went for the £135 Zotac Zytok. Sorry couldnt resist!:D

At this price I wanted to get a second for sli but my mobo is a P45. Anyone know a good cheap SLI mobo that can overclock a dualie well? I really want to get a 2nd GTX260.

Good choice on the 260.

As for SLi - this is why i sold my X38 and went back to AMD.

Only properly decent s775 SLi mobo is a 790i but you'd need DDR3.
