280gtx or 260gtx?

Well I went for the £135 Zotac Zytok. Sorry couldnt resist!:D

At this price I wanted to get a second for sli but my mobo is a P45. Anyone know a good cheap SLI mobo that can overclock a dualie well? I really want to get a 2nd GTX260.

er what are you apologising for anyway?? :)

you certainly do get through gfx cards though.......

If you are going with the 192 core version you should also consider the Radeon 4850 as it seems to be in the same league.

Did he just type that? My old old GTX 260 (192) was right on the heels of a stock GTX 280 with the overclock I had on it!

+1 for the 280, if you look around you can get a bargain. Also, I dunno what's this about the XFX cards. Mine is the XT overclock version, I've clocked it even more and its rock solid. Bare in mind XFX offer double lifetime warrenty too. and supports overclocking..

I'd say both the 4870s are out of the question if you intend to overclock. All these nice graphs show either stock or factory clocked cards. Doesn't take into account the massive headroom the GTX 2** has for overclocking which will pull it away from the 4870. By massive I mean, people running 260s on 720MHz+ core clocks, up from a stock clock of 576 or whatever it is!

Is a gtx 260 good enough to power a 1920x1200 24" in games? or even if I lowered the Res to 1680... would it be powerfull enough for that?

Failure rate and abissmal warranty service.

Okay if you buy one from ocuk as they deal with the warranty themselves and was the only way they agreed to sell XFX again.

Buy anywhere else and expect to wait weeks to get your card back.
Is their support that bad, just that ive got an xfx 280 gtx xt bought from another etailer, going fine at the minute but this support issue has got me a bit concerned now.

try searching on this forum or google it. Nothing you can do now you have one so I hope nothing goes wrong.

Yep Greebo, i had a quick look on google earlier about xfx support and it doesnt make good reading, here's hoping that the card stays ok, as im extremely pleased with the performance from it.

i had problems with xfx years ago so wont touch them now

on the overclock front ... it was just the larger 216 chips as they come with the same cooler as the 280s had fitted.

you got a good price with that zotec - congats :D id have been tempted but im glad i got the bfg for £183 (which was only up for about 8 hours) because I keep gcards for around 5 years at a time so having a good brand and warentee is importiant also like you said cuda and physx is decent to have over ati (which drivers seem to be hit and miss) and ive got badaboom which uses cuda to encode lightningly fast!

:D 2 happy chaps ey :P

I bought the xfx gtx 285 even after reading the negative reviews about their support. But I also assume that for every one negative review a product has there were probably 20x more people who were satisfied but just never left a review. It's a fact you love something and you might tell a couple of people, but if you hate something, you will tell EVERYONE!

But in my head I keep thinkin, there support couldn't be THAT bad could it? Please do not answer that...

btw, LOVE the card. I play everything on max settings on 1680x1050 acer p201w
i7 [email protected] ghz on stock air
evga x 58 sli
6gb OCZ platinum tri-channel
NXZT 600w psu (I know! right?)

how come neither the guru3d or the tom's guides seem to include the 1GB 4870 in anything??? Every other card including some oddballs like the 2GB 4850 are in there but not one of the most popular cards on the market. I know it's likely to be similar to the 512MB results but surely it should pull away at higher resolutions?? Mike , how are you finding the 260 after the 4870? Guru benchies seem to suggest it's a fair bit better though the Tom's ones are more level.

Get a 260-216 SSC.

I've had a 260ssc a 280OC and now a 285.

If I had to buy from scratch again I would get the 260ssc. :)

I've never had a problem with XFX. And ive got one of the older ones. 192sp.
I think my card overclocks very well imo as long as you dont mind running the fan more than 40% speed.
Came out the box
575 core clock
1242 shader clock
999 memory clock

Can O/C's stable
680 core
1466 shader
1155 memory

The zotac offer at the momment seams really good vaule for moine. Bargin prce.
But ive never had that brand befor so cant comment on quality or oc.
