The MR2 replacement is here!

Looks glorious! I have always loved DC5 Tegs.

How much did you get for your '2 if you don't mind me asking? I need to sell mine, too.

Following on from my thread a couple of weeks ago about selling my MR2 (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17984991&highlight=startername_ci_newman), I took a flight up to Glasgow at 6am this morning to collect it's replacement:

Proceeding the pick-up, I had a 450-mile trip back down to Basingstoke (in Hampshire) so I can go back to work tomorrow.

It's a bit hard to do a full write-up after only 99% motorways but it is certainly a world apart from the MR2.

I could quite happily cruise along the motorway in 6th gear without too much cabin noise and an overal return of 40mpg for the journey it's a definate improvement.

Me = one happy bunny :D:cool:

Nice. As you said, worlds apart. I was up against one of these on the track in my N/A MR2, it was blisteringly quick in a straight line. The handling wasn't the best, but was still awsome from what I could see. Looks a bit of a sleeper in silver too! :)

lol I thought these were supposed to be the opposite, quick in a straight line but amazing on track? :p

Looks great! Prefer White and Blue to Silver, but still very very nice :)

How much did your insurance come out at with this? I was getting ridiculous quotes left right and centre so gave up looking for a while, which makes no sense as I get decent quotes on other cars and certain imports too! :)

Congrats again! :)

Another one here in the '40mpg my arse' party. :p :D

Car looks very nice all the same.

Why wouldn't it be? Out of vtec the cams are not agressive in the slightest, I would not be surprised if it was the same sort of profile that say like a 2.0 focus has. The engine is well ported with good breathing too, so really it is an efficient 2.0 engine out of vtec. The only thing going against good mpg is the short gearing, so as long as decent cruising speeds (65-70mph) are kept there is no reason why you can't get good mpg.

I can get good mpg out of my mx5 on motorway keeping to 70mph (~45mpg) and thats with the revs at 3800rpm area and a worse drag coefficient as the dc5.

ci_newman,

Very nice car there! Have always been interested in them, should be a right laugh on country roads.

£2000 all in, which is pretty depressing but then that's only depreciation of about £330 / year since I purchased it!

For the moment, I've added it to my old MR2 insurance with A-Plan but I was getting an annual quote of around £900 F/C from Sky when I was looking at new policies :)

Seems like a downgrade to me :/

They are just very different cars - it was becoming more frequent that I needed a car with 4 seats and with a maintenance running cost being close to £6000 for the 3 years ownership of the MR2 (exc. Insurance, tax & fuel) it just made no sense to keep spending money on the car.

Plus I wanted a change :)

That looks smart in Silver, silver has always been a bit more classy on fast Hondas :P

I wouldnt make too much of a judgement from someone who has made a statement about vehicle handling without driving the car.

Very nice chris i have been considering one of these myself but the only thing that puts me off it they dont seem very fast :| My 182 trophy with remap and decat was about as quick. + the fact vtec just dosent seem a very big deal in comparison with say the DC2

Great cars tho, they handle very well from what ive been told ! Looking forward to the full write up ...

I think that depends on your definition of fast :p compared to the VX220T it will certainly be slower in a straight line but it is quite closely matched to my old MR2 once it gets going.

There are upgrade options available to the DC5, although I dare say that they will be more expensive that the 182. The average cost for a new induction kit comes in around £600 :o

If you got bored of it, you could always slap a super charger on for ~ 300bhp of F/I Vtec fun :p

That is lovely car ci_newman and the colour is not that bad. The DC5 in standard trim can be a bit soft but with a fast road setup and some coilovers it IMO becomes the modern day DC2.

How are you finding the look of the rear room in that? Might have to consider starting looking again, especially after googling white ones last night :)

Not too shabby Chris ;)

You must have driven like miss daisy to get 40MPG... I don't get much more from my diseasal repmobile! :p
