Demoing/ordering 7.1 home cinema next week

**** me I think I have said this more than three times now I'M NOT ALLOWED A PROJECTOR I WANTED AN INFOCUS IN83!,In a room my size 23ft by 13.5ft a 60 inch screen will be enough, anyway me and my mates have had the bugger out of the box and believe me there isn't any regrets! I need floor standers for the rears as I don't want them to get knocked over. I have had book shelf speakers in the past on stands and they got knocked over all the time and I don't want to hang them on the wall via a pretty bracket.

Also I paid no where near the asking prices for any of this stuff I bought anyway, lots of haggling and playing quotes off against one another lots of fun.:)

My misses doesnt tell me Im not allowed, she can go watch Eastenders in the bedroom on the portable ;)

TANK, when someone posts in a thread it doesnt mean they have read EVERY single word or post, sorry if you feel offended but if you post on a public forum your going to get peoples opinons.
Many of the guys on here have great experience in this field and okay you may not be wanting everyones advice but rather share this exciting time for yourself.

In a room the size you have it would have been quite easy to have a Projector concealed in some form of nice wall unit or perhaps coffee style table and with a motorised screen at the other end of the room coming from a stylish pelmet or from the celing. Come now im sure youve seen some of the excellent home diy stuff on AV Forums or other places where people with the same issues regards "the misses saying no" have incorporated some clever yet stylish solutions.

Regards speakers knocking over, a good set of stands with a speaker either screwed on or attached via velcro will NOT get tipped over any easier than a floorstanding speaker would. Im no physics expert but mmmm WxDxH + WEIGHT would have been similar id of thought and if anything heavier with BS and a good stand. A good set of stands could have been filled to ensure it wasnt top heavy but balanced.
Seems like a silly reason, fine if you said you wanted floorstanders fullstop then afterall it is YOUR CALL but honestly dont think they would get knocked over easy. In fact anyone here ever knock over a speaker on a stand? Yet somehow yours got knocked over all the time?

However please remember as i finished with my last post i will finish with this one.
What matters is that your happy and enjoy it.

My girlfriend pays half the bills, its not a case of *** off in the other room to watch horrible miserable soaps its her place too and I respect that;). As for the projector thats non negotiable and I've tried talking her round to hiding it in the walls, shes not up for it simple as and I don't want to push my luck as the money was for my first car originally which she helped contribute to over the years. Anyway I am very happy with the rears as floorstanders there very sturdy and have a large base in which to screw into there not going to get knocked over unlike book shelf speakers IMO from the bad experience I have had from the old B&W 600 series with matching stands.

Ahh the joys of being a bachelor - having a front room crammed with all sorts of expensive shiny stuff! ;)

What's the plan of action with getting all your kit setup, Tank?

I'm still waiting for my 600M to come into stock and for my SVS PC-Ultra to arrive from the States (both should arrive in the first week of April I reckon).

Hate waiting! Arghhhhhhhhhhh

Pioneer PDP-LX6090 £3,199 inc VAT with free 5yr guarantee and free home delivery.

Pioneer KRP-600A £3,598.99 inc VAT with free 5yr guarantee and free home delivery.

Was my link any good to you OCdude, I thought they were very good deals also they are both in stock;). In answer to your question I should have it all set up within the next 3-4 weeks as I have a lot of decoration to do, but should get the lounge out of the way first so I can set it all up:).

Ah didn't notice those links. Funnily enough I tried ordering a stand through them a few weeks ago, but they told me that the item wasn't actually in stock and wasn't going to be in for several weeks >.<

Regardless, i'm paying £3,400 (with 5 year warranty and free delivery) for the 600M which is as good as i've found. Plus it's from a highly regarded online dealer... just want it nowwwwwwwwwwwww! :D

Thanks for the links tho.

Be sure to post progress pics!

Thats totally understandable but as a man wanting high tech toys its part of your duty to the others here in showing your negotating skills with woman handling and your prowess within your kingdom (well livingroom at least). As you can tell im saying this in jest so dont get annoyed.

However your situation isnt a new thing and well a 60" TV isnt a bad compromise at all is it. Im sure guys here would say if you can convince a girl to have a brute 60" TV sitting out in plain view which isnt exactly a small thing now is it. Thing is the part i cant understand is for instance a projector wouldnt even of needed to of been seen at all if installed properly with good d.i.y. so id ask how would it of been any more unsightly than the TV? Totally legit question in my view.

No need to defend your situation im just making a point.
Maybe in time your negotiating skills will improve but its a terrible terrible thing when a man cant get what he wants. ;)
I sympathise with you, but im sure youll get over it.

I wasnt allowed Bowers & Wilkins 802D so i share your pain.

Thats cool Mr Latte, I think what really bugged her was the life and price of the bulbs:eek:. As for the B&W 802D one day my friend one day except I'll have to wait for a family member to snuff it lol:D.

oh yeah, a decent set of stands will be aproaching 40-50kg each when filled, far heavier than your average floorstander and remember its also bottom heavy. not at all easy to knock one over.

I woman only needs to know certain things my friend, though i bet she doesnt let on to you the cost of all those handbags, shoes, clothes etc.

I keep my misses going all the time telling her that a remote control is a MANs device and proof of this is evident with fridge freezers, dishwashers, microwaves and cookers not coming with remote controls at all.

Now i say that but have found myself being out numbered now with a wife and 9 year old daughter. So i have to say its not often i get to control the TV hence why ive retreated to my loft or play den.

You walk about the rear corner section of your room a lot?
Floor stands would be fine james, filled for weight and if really needed they could have been mounted to a concrete block cut to a shape and covered to be asthetically pleasing then attached via bolts or screws. Ideal for a wooden floor and i used such a tactic for my sub as im in the loft, it beefed the sound and stopped the bass going through the whole house.

All you need is a little imagination.

im not sure if you read my post correctly, i was actually agreeing with you.

but no i dont walk around the rear of my room a lot - my rears are wall mounted anyway. my fronts are stand mounts though.

No I'm alright showing the opposite sex respect, that makes me a better person than most!

I was only pulling your leg :D

Mine soon learned that I bought stuff with or without her input, and after plenty of moaning she came to love the stuff and wanted to take it back to her parents house when we moved out of our flat.

Just be careful as what you want will always be what she wants, and what 'we want together' will also be what she wants ;)

I can't wait to see pics of this setup and read a review on how it sounds. Espcially keen on the floorstands as rears and how they perform.
