Downloadable Content on the PC should DIE

It's a bad situation, but I think PC devs are pretty aware that we aren't going to pay for extra content. On the consoles they have no choice.

Look at the CoD4 map pack - Nvidia sponsored the release and got it for free for us, not to mention Left4Dead and also the new WaW map pack, which (I think) is free.

Bf2 was releasing mod packs years ago so its not a new concept. Micro payments and all that are supposed to be the future of e-commerce so we've been told for a while now.

so long as they dont stop players doing their own mods I dont care if they release extra packs or not and no it doesnt have to be in the game from the start just a good basic engine to play on is best

The DLC only works on the steam version of the game, so anyone who bought it at retail can't get it

Cant steam games be added in with a serial or is that valve only

I know it's taking this thread a tad OT but I had to point this out.

Three brand new weapons, which can be found in the armory:

* Silenced Shotgun

WTF!!!!

If there was any part of me that still wanted to play FC2 this purely comical bit of text has killed it forever. Silenced shotgun seriously WTF.

DLC should die period !

It should be part and parcel of having to pay for xbox live and or the game.

Don't blame them though blame the people that pay for silly things like £3.50 or whatever it costs for a rubbish costume on street fighter IV.

Starcraft 2 has gone one step further and is being released in parts which is a complete joke in my view.

Fair enough if it's going to be four parts each costing £5-£10 ish but that wont be the case will it.

if devs want to add content to a game on the pc that expands the game - that is what i call an expansion pack

and i will happily pay for those

as for paying for downloaded guns/vehicles that add little to the games story/depth, then no

no thanks

I hate DLC but its here to stay & for PC it may even become an anti-piracy tool. As someone said earlier FC2 DLC is not going to get much business........

Fallout 3 DLC however I think is very good and well worth the 800 MS points. The next pack is released on Tuesday.
Red Alert3 DLC just came out on the PC for the expansion pack EA decided to not bother with a retail release at all as they must know it will not get many sales as RA3 was poor compared to earlier RA games.
On X360 the Tomb Raider Underworld DLC is absolutely superb and well worth 1600 points as you get 2 of the best levels in the entire game:D
On X360 Dead Space DLC however takes the absolute living pee as you have to buy weapons, weapon skins & armour to help with the harder game modes:eek:
Prince Of Persia also just got DLC for the opening level which never made it to the retail release:eek:

Cannot see DLC going away at all and if anything will become the norm for most future games as it can for a small price bring you more gametime on popular releases but on the less popular it is just a waste of bandwidth.

I have nothing against DLC's, provided it's cheap and actually adds new things like in fallout ( seemed decent, new weapons and quests). However, I feel being a pc gamer, we should get stuff like this for free like we always did, I can clearly recall patches and updates in games like Age of empries 2 ( added new random maps) and Battlefield 1942 ( new maps) and others to provide free new content after a while, shame only valve really does that these days, I'm sure there are exceptions I mean, but not from the likes of Ubisoft, never really liked them often they concentrate on consoles these days.

Just because many people here didn't like it, including me and you, doesn't mean a lot of others out there didn't like it. It's sold over a million copies on PC.

Yea, it's crap. We know that. But lots of people like it. Sad but true!

I dont know a single person that likes this game or would purchase extra content for it. Just because a million copies sold doesnt mean people like it.

We both got copies, neither of us like it.

Had to come sooner or later :(
I plan on avoiding any game that leads to payable extra content. But having said that if EA put an 8 map pack up for BF2 I'd get my coin out in a flash :p

i'd prefer it if they released updates, with an optional donate button.

i'd happily donate towards TF2 / L4D content

  • Silenced Shotgun
  • Sawed-off shotgun

Considering I never bought the shotguns in FC2 the first place, as they're absolutely rubbish in games and barely hurt anyone, and have enormous spray-everywhere patterns, then adding 2 more seems about as lame as its possible to get  Especially if you're meant to *pay* for them!

(This is from a clay pigeon shooter who understands choke, so with extra-full choke and size 4 shot, you can reach out and touch things at a good 60-70 yards)

You have to go and meet Rueben at the marina bar, but you can't actually get in, as there's no hand symbol on the door. So you're completely stuck basically, although some people with the bug (on xb360 I think) have been able to get round it using some weird mortar glitch (aiming at the door, then pivoting round 180 degrees to get their character to effectively ghost through the doorway).

It's very annoying because I was enjoying the game up until that point for the most part, and now there's absolutely no way of continuing, I tried loading an earlier savegame and it was exactly the same. There's no way I'm gonna load a much older save, slug through an hour or two of play and still have no guarentee that the bug won't still be present.

Ubisoft need to fix it and their complete lack of support or even acknowledgement of such a serious flaw is absolutely dispicable. Yes, it's probably not the easiest bug to fix (since it doesn't happen to everyone, and is cross-platform) but their support staff won't even acknowledge that their product is defective. Even something simple like a noclip cheat would be nice so I could progress with the game.

I've never known a game developer that has let a Sev1 issue like that go outstanding for months, meanwhile issuing silly little enhancements.

Well, the good news is my above rant motivated me to do a bit more digging, and I've found a 'solution'! :)

It turns out that the mortar bug I mentioned above was fixed in a patch, which is why it wasn't working for me. So I reinstalled the game, loaded up my savegame without patching the game, used the exploit to warp through the door and saved my game. Now patched up to 1.02 and loaded the new savegame, and I can continue!

It's still a sad state of affairs when the only way you can progress in a game is to downgrade your game version to an even buggier version, and then take advantage of one of those bugs to circumvent the original bug.

Pay for DLC should die on all platforms.
I have been reading many comments from Console owners getting sick to death of what has started to happen with SF4 & resident evil 5 with the content already on the Disc, pay for the key to unlock it.
