Jade dies

So she's gone from the Media's envisaged devil to their messiah because she has died from a disease that many better than her have died from with no mention?

She's not the messiah, she ain't getting back up again at Easter.

My point exactly, way too many people listen to the media for their own opinion on people. I am glad for her sake that at least that part of her life is over.

That's what annoys me. People are dying of cancer every day. Why is Jade a special case?

Why dont people grasp the friggin concept of media coverage?

If someone is known in the media and gets a "celebrity" status then their story is worth more money than any normal person in the street.

Shes more special cos she sells more papers. I wouldnt read a story about some random person in the street, but If its someone i know through the media already, then ill take time to glance through it.

Bigger 'celebs' than her haven't got half of the coverage this **** is.

And the need for the PM to speak out?

name some. Jade goody was probably the biggest celeb there was in the uk after she got cancer. The media decides who the celebrities are and how much coversge they get ergo how 'big' they are. If media suddenly make no more stories whatsoever about ricky gervais he will be forgotten by mainstream (not me though, i love him) within a few months.

I aint seen / heard what Gordon Brown has said, but did he come out with it on his own accord or was it a response to something?

yes, its a shame that. Paul Hunter died of pancreatic cancer at 27 and he got diddly squat coverage, presumable because he didnt live his life in the public eye, other than playing some bloody good snooker and becoming known as 'the Beckham of snooker'. did either of them deserve more converage? no. was she 'more special' as you put it? most certainly not, but it just goes to show doesnt it?

Dont get me wrong mate, Jade Goody wasnt exactly a brilliant Icon, nor did she achieve anything notable. But the media took interest in her, for her problems, then proved how fickle they were and backed her in the end.

She wasnt a bad person, a pain in the arse maybe. but no different to people weve all probably met at one point.

Its just how some things go. some peoples lives sell papers. Others dont. But people yapping on about how nobodies get no coverage are just being stupid.

It's mainly becuase she was essentially a 'normal' person that was thrust into the limelight and stayed pretty much the same, and also she let the media in her life a lot more than the average 'higher' class celebrity, not only did this help her make become more famous (becuase there was an an obvious demand for it whether you like her or not) but this also made people feel closer to her, like they knew her to a certain degree.

Now I can think of quite a few big celebrities that have done a lot more good than she has done in the world but I feel very disconnected with many of them, I'm not saying I wouldn't pay my respects when they passed, of course I would, but their passing wouldn't effect me in the same way, I'm not saying Jades passing has effected me in some major way, it hasn't, but becuase of all the media coverage and how she lived her life in the media it does effect me, and no doubt the nation more on a subconscious level, and becuase of the way in which she died at such a young age leaving two children behind it makes you think and reflect more about your own lives.

she hasn't done anything worthy to society, regardless of age or even of her personality,
Except prompt thousands of 20-something females to go for smear tests that otherwise might not have.

if i start to spend time on everyone who die young, of cancer, war, famine, i won't have time to breath.
True, though of course the irony is that you have spent enough time on Jade to write this post.

It speaks volumes about our society that we start to care about a random person who is well known for being loud, thick and questionably racist.
Yes, it does, but perhaps it speaks just as much about the willingness of at least some of society to look beyond the personality and see the person, and her family.

Her boys will be fine, they are well taken care of, money, a father by their side, i am sure they'll be fine.
The father is the one area where there might be legitimate concern, but that's not a discussion for this thread.

ive just got the first chain text asking me to 'send this txt 2 10 people 2 show ur repesct'.

I'm thinking slightly more about my own mother who died of cancer. i couldnt really care less about those sorts of emails or texts anyway but my god that has angered me coming from a friend who should have known better.
Totally agree, pointless and unnecessary. I'm sure the spammers will be joining in soon too.

She's no messiah, but she is a human being who died far too young. Besides, she made no secret of wanting to use the media for her own ends, and given the usual crap tactics the media have got up to over the years, why not - especially if it helps secure the future of her family and maybe even saves a few lives. Admittedly, much of the 'using' was probably Max Clifford's doing, but still.

plenty of people die from cancer each year its sad but its a fact of life just because one of these people happened to be on a tv game show doesnt mean i should have sympathy for her or even care.

Although I feel sorry for her family, I don't see why she deserves so much sympathy when millions of people each year are effected by cancer. I love how the press used to take the mick out of her at every opportunity and the very second she has cancer they all switch to arse-kissing mode and lavish sympathy on her and her family. It just shows how fickle the press is in this country.

On mothers day, truely sad.

Although I didn't agree with a few things she did in her life, I would never wish this sort of suffering on anyone :(

RIP Jade
