Sorry for the dramatic title! lol

I sold my 360 recently as I had a PS3 as well with over 150 quids worth of singstar DLC and still wanted a Blu Ray Player. I bought again two of my favorite 360 games Oblivion GOTY and The Darkness. With both games they are horrible on the PS3 as they seems to be no AA. The Darkness was bad enough but on Oblivion holding a sword, talking to characters etc it just looked terrible.

Looks like I'm back to Buying on a 360, though I'll still keep my PS3 for SingStar and Blu Ray. It really is a shame there is no AA as otherwise the games would have been as good as their 360/PC equivalents. I can appreciate someone whos only used a ps3 not noticing any difference but I think once your use to at least 2xaa you never look back.

The Darkness is legendarily hideous on PS3.

Still I would have thought a developer like Bethesda would not include such a jaring difference between rival format versions. :(

Drakes Fortune has no AA issues and that was a top tier game as well. It's a real shame this issue and "forcing me" to own two consoles.

The Darkness - Bad port
Oblivion - Most people say the PS3 version is superior

but I think once your use to at least 2xaa you never look back.

Had a 360 since 2005, PS3 since late 2007 and I'm used to playing PC games with at least 4x AA up to 16x, I don't complain because the problem is either non existant or extremely minor.

Most console games look fine at sofa distance when it comes to jaggies, Halo 3 looks terrible full stop however.

Rather than just comparing some early ports to the ps3, look at their latest titles?

Killzone 2, LBP...

Even the likes of original games released like Heavenly Sword looks amazing on the ps3...

Yes I get the point that sony made the ps3 a B****! to develop on, albeit it does have the greater power undeniably, its graphics configuration is more than lacking in limitations.... Think I have heard bandwidth for one thing, albeit this does not terribly effect the AA on the ps3...

I find it really distracting and spoils the immersion of games when there are loads of jagged edges everywhere. I'd rather a low resolution and high AA to be honest. I never noticed jaggies being a problem on any 360 game I owned, I own 4 ps3 games and its spoilt two of them.

Those games are alright as are most recent ones but I only seem to play on a few games per year and so these are two classic games for me I would have liked to continued playing as they each offer something unique that hasn't been better or covered much since in my opinion.

The Darkness and Oblivion are both rather early PS3 games and you will always get the bad ports being put across platforms.

I don't really see how jaggies can ruin your game so much, turning down your sharpness will help although not exactly ideal but it can help.

What size display are you playing these at and at what res?

Thanks I'll try that. I guess its similar to those that don't like playing games at a low resolution.

I hated, hated the ps2 GTA's but loved the PC versions for the same reasons. Maybe I'm strange lol.

EDIT: 42 inch 1080p.

Oh I forgot make sure you don't have 1080i ticked in the PS3 display settings as some games do use it and people have reported that 1080i causes horrific jaggies on some games.

Ah thats what it could be. Should I set it to 720p?

In essence, you are actually buying the 360 again to play those two games. Most ports 2008 and onwards are pretty equal to their 360 counterparts.

The Darkness is probably the worse ported PS3 game. Its horrendous! If you look at titles newer than 06 youll find multiplats pretty much look the same so I wouldnt worry. Oblivion is supposed to be regarded better on the PS3 but tbh the only thing I noticed that was better was the draw distance and that was it.

Set it to 1080p and 720p. Thats what i have done on my PX80, automatically sets it to 1080p for Blu-rays and 720p for games. Never seen a game play at 1080p, the TV always flickers for a second and pops up "Input 720p" or something when it changes resolution. When i quit to the XMB, it flicks again and goes back to "Input 1080p".

use 720P, my TV is still on automatic, though it does 1080P it always selects 720P for PS3 and xbox 360 games, except wipeout HD which gets auto 1080P

Basically the developers wanted to get the game out quickly for the PS3.

The same thing happened with an NFL game because they weren't fimiliar with the PS3 capabilities or hardware. Its teething problems in other words. Normally they rush out the release and don't bother with the whole remaking because there's no time or they want to release it for the peak selling times.
