Yes, the GTX 285 does offer the highest performance of a single GPU solution in many cases. But the fact that the 4870 costs just a little more than half as much, and in some cases performs higher, leaves a sour taste in our mouths.
Same move i made recently myself, the gtx was a very nice upgrade from the gts, which was starting to struggle at 1920x1200.bad move! im joking - I went from a heavily OC'd 8800GTS (G92) to a GTX 280 and what an amazing difference. I know its not exactly the same card but its pretty close - enjoy ur card man!
That is true, given the performance of the (now so cheap) 4870, 260, and coming soon the 4890 and 275 cards. It's a nice card but even at £270 the value is questionable.

Otherwsie, that gtx 285 will certainly be a nice upgrade.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
It was a tough decision because the 4870X2 can be had for just over £300. I'm sure that it has a higher resale value but I just didn't want to go with 2 GPUs...
Not sure if that was a good\bad idea, but just like I don't like the "Wii" games console and everyone else in the world does. I can't stand the thought of a dual GPU graphics card.
...
Still I'm sure I'll love it, and hopefully it can get me back into gaming again![]()
What were your reasons for not going with two gpus, just out of interest? I'm trying to decide what to replace my 8800 GTX with.
heh heh I'm not mad on the WII either, I kept hearing how great it was but when I finally played it I just thought the graphics looked very basic.
