Had Germany won WWII what would the UK be like?

Even if he hasn't, I think the answer is still "better".

Just imagine: council estates would have a gas chamber at one end, a crematorium at the other, and a soap factory somewhere in the middle.

Can't complain, tbh.

LOL! Oddly satifying mental image to be honest...

But still - flawed though our society may be, I don't think anything we may have gained could outweigh a world where people are free to express themselves without fear of summary execution or other forms of punishment. I don't want to live in some Orwellian nightmare state - I don't know about you?!

Thing is, you need to look at the country as it is now.

The British navy was the only real area that the British out-matched the Germans.

But really, naval power was not relevant to the success of operation Sealion (the invation of Britiain). What it depended on was air superiority.

The Nazis were so close to achieving air superiority in late 1940, having targetted British airfields for months. But, a small German bomber force accidentally dropped their bombloads on London, and the British took it as an opportunity to bomb Berlin in 'retaliation'. This angered Hitler, and from this point onwards he focussed on destroying British cities (something he had previously tried to avoid). The bombing of our cities cost thousands of lives, but saved fighter command (and with it our entire country) from destruction.

Respectfully, you don't know what you are talking about.

First the RAF was nowhere near defeat, and towing river barges over a sea patrolled by the enemies high seas fleet has everything to do with sea power.

Riddle me this. How could a Luftwaffe that famously failed to sink enough stationary RN destroyers and other small vessels that were on the German side of the channel in fine weather to prevent the evacuation of the BEF from France somehow be able to sink enough moving RN destroyers and cruisers in October often in fog and the night ?

Have you read many works that discuss Sealion ? Because i have. Sealion had ALL of the major Kreigsmarine units in the North Sea, miles from the invasion. Why ? Because they were operating with skeleton crews, and unable to fight. The bulk of the crews would be in the channel frantically bailing out river barges that swamped in the slightest swell. The Germans didn't have enough trained crews to man the barges and tugs *and* fight their warships. ALL of their cruisers and above were assigned a "demonstration" mission in the North Sea hoping to draw off at least a portion of the Home Fleet.

They lost somwhere around 80% of their destroyers at Narvik. They less than 10 left iirc. The Home Fleet had in the region of 50.

That covers a part of the surface aspect, if you want to continue this i'll go on to explain why the Luftwaffe expending 1,800 aircraft and only having the partial abandonment of ONE RAF fighter station to show for it indicates who was closest to defeat in the air. Also Fighter Command had a higher first line strength AFTER the battle than before.

I imagine, and this is not a joke, the UKs transport infrastructure would be in a better state than it is now. The Germans are known for their engineering. A Maglev route from London, through Paris terminating at Berlin perhaps? The M1 may have been the UKs autobahn.
I imagine the monarchy would have been abolished and Ireland and Iceland taken over too.
At the same time I reckon we'd be a police state under strict curfew of 8 O Clock in homes.
Small pockets of Jews and Gypsies would have existed and main population forgotten.
Crime would be low due to the fear of execution and propaganda would be at a all time high.
The North Sea would have been used to provide oil for this new power.

Thoughts?

Probably not. The Nazis were going bankrupt towards the end of the war, internal political struggles, genocide probably would have seen their rule, had they won, not last particularly long.

They could have raised money by selling Skegness and concreting over Blackpool to turn it into a parking lot!

I remember having a conversation similar to this when I played WoW, we were raiding and my mate over mic out of nowhere said...

'And if we'd lost the Second World War we'd be fighting Ragnajew right now'

Was absolutely brilliant at the time :D

Wonder if the US would have allowed a mass exodus of British people over to their country, no doubt leading engineers, researchers, military types would have been on the first plane across.

yes, because every German from WWII is obviously dead.

Maybe he's Jewish, or Romany or Slav. Or a communist, a homosexual or has mental problems. Maybe he's a member of the scouting movement or has someone in his family who spoke out against National Socialism or perhaps fought in Spain against Franco.

Maybe he's just going to be in a town or village where someone took a potshot at a passing German, or is just an able bodied person who would have been transported to Germany and literally worked to death.

But hey the trains would have run on time ;)
