I may be mistaken but isn't the only good reason for having a pager now days because they can get signal places mobiles can't??

Also pager messages can be covered by contracted SLAs unlike SMS messages which can take many hours to be delivered, (yes I know most SMS's come through quickly but they can be delayed if the network is busy).
