Hi all
Since doing a fresh install since getting the P5Q-E (first install was giving me BSODs).

My Ram has passed 2 passes of Memtest. Passed 5of5 (100%) of IntelBurnTest max test.

But I can not play BF2 (Aix2) for more than 5-10mins before CTD. Rainbowsix 2 Froze on me after a couple of mins.

Whats wrong with my PC. Its peeing me off now.

CTD?

Crash to Desktop?

You may have to paint a more clear picture mate as its not clear whats going on? All chipset drivers and stuff installed yeah?

Obvious things like PSU trouble, Faulty GPU, something overheating?, and tweaking your system for 4 Sticks of RAM come to mind?

More info! :)

BF2 is notoriously picky with gfx drivers - assuming you installed the very latest ones try an older set (eg 8.12). Did you install all the relevant mobo drivers as well? Probably unlikely but worth a shot.

Bf2 is picky about sound drivers too.
Are you using onboard or a seperate sound card?
Make sure if using a seperate soundcard that onboard is disabled in bios.

Ok all Drives installed. ATI 9.3, Asus Xonar Latest. When I was on my last install (the one that gave me a lot of BSOD) I did not get any CTDs from BF2 or any other game.

I will try an older set of Cats.

Strange I cant seem to get the 4870 to work with any other driver besides 9.3 and 9.4 betas.

But its still CTDing. aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

This is driving me nuts.

A month or so ago my system was randomly CTD when running Left4Dead, it didn't matter if it was at stock or overclocked, it'd still CTD. I had a right nightmare trying to solve the problem as the system was prime, occt and intel burntest stable. After seemingly trying every fix in the book, inc different ram and tweaking bios values until my head hurt, I reluctantly upped the vcore one notch, and low and behold, it's never CTD since. Not sure if the same fix will sort your CTD but I guess there's no harm in trying, temps permitting of course. :)

Nope still getting random CTD in some games and the PC Locks up in others.

What the heck is wrong with this damn machine. Is it the Graphics or something else.

PS I do not have any other machine or anyone to test the 4870.

aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hey Clairvoyant,

There is lots of reasons you could be having trouble but you really need to get some composure if your gonna get a fix, you know the score! ;)

You need to isolate the problem, set the BIOS back to defaults, totally uninstall the ATI drivers and use a tool like Drive Cleaner Pro or Clean sweep to make sure its all clear then download and install the latest Cats.

A game crashing to desktop if nothing to do with the drivers will most likely be either overclocked related, a slightly faulty PSU or perhaps a faulty GPU.

Just start from the beginning and slowly and calmly work through the trouble-shooting process.

What PSU do you have? is it old?

Have you tried running something like 3DMark03 or 3DMark06 on a loop for a few hours, maybe something like the Crysis demo and the Crysis benchmark tool set to do 50 runs. If any of the above crash you may at least know its not a game specific thing and perhaps overclocked or hardware related.

*hopefully* you haven't got any faulty hardware and its just something that you can tweak in BIOS, have you tried with just one or two sticks of Memory for trouble-shooting purposes?

My advice would be:

-Clear CMOS, set everything back to stock (you must do this in order to eliminate any bad OC issues).
-Load setup defaults.
-Try to run games, but keep an eye on temperatures. Download EVEREST ultimate trial edition, and keep and eye on motherboard, gpu and cpu temps.

If temps are ok:
-Run Memtest via a boot cd. (Let it pass at least 10 tests).

If no errors in memtest:
-Uninstall drivers. (both chipset and display)
-Go to safe mode. Use driver sweeper to clean out all nvidia driver files.
-Boot back into "normal" mode and install chipset drivers, restart, install display drivers.

If all that fails, I'd be suspecting PSU as Big.Wayne has suggested.

Can you elaborate on your situation please?

What kit did you have when you was running the ABIT mobo? all the same as now except the board or?

If you overclock wasn't good there is a chance you may have corrupted the game install or similar (its happens) and even though you have set the system back to stock the game will still fall over! :(

The only fix there is to uninstall the game and re-install.

Re a PSU, its a piece of hardware and as such is prone to failure. A PSU doesn't always go *pop* when its knackered, they sometimes slowly start fading and produce errors of a curve-ball nature that send nOObzilla trouble-shooters out their mind! . . . for this very reason I purchased a PSU tester because I got well and truely done over by an Antec True Power TRIO in the past that slowly gave up the ghost shortly after I installed a HD2900XT.

I'm not a mind reader and you have supplied very little information for us to work with, could be so many things but basically your gonna stay in a world of pain as long as you *assume* things are working! . . . Test everything and isolate the problem, calmly and methodically. . .
