Hey all, thinking of getting two of these for my system but not sure how much of a performance increase i would get over a normal sata 7200rpm hard drive. I have upgraded to windows vista recently and noticed that it uses the harddrives more sometimes and it seems like games take long to load would i see a significant performance increase?

are you going to Raid them ?

another option for you is to get one or two SSD drives and raid those....

very quick

no I am not very knowlageable about raid, i just want to be able to put them in and have one for the os and another for backing up important files safely but still the option for quick access as sometimes i shortcut to media files on the second drive.

The ssd drives are too expecive for me, i am looking at the two VelociRaptor 300gb ones because they also store enough, the ssd that store 25gb are like 500£ each.

Are these drives not worth it whith out raid?

there are 64gb SSD (gone up in price now) to £135 ish

but, if you dont want to Raid, then i would say get one Raptor for your OS/Apps

and get another non raptor for your data..

After having a single Raptor, I wouldn't say they're worth the cash tbh. I replaced it with a Sammy 64gb SSD for boot and apps, and a 300gb Sammy HDD for games and documents. System boots a little faster and of course the SSD is silent, whereas raptors are quite noisy.

Get the 74gb Veloci if u can find it otherwise the 150 they are silent (near) and v fast and have none of the downsides of SSD.

SSD is the future, but not yet.

I have a vraptor, and they are quicker than normal hard drives. I prefer them. Im impatient. SSD's are also expensive for the decent ones!

i also use a velociraptor 150gb, far quicker than any other 7200rpm drive iv used, even the old 8mb cache 74gb raptor drives i still have are faster in everything except sequential transfers of large files.

to me raptor is worth the money since it doesnt have the limitations of SSD. can write on them as much as i like.
