He is, of course, wrong.
The Mondeo has become more refined since the Mk2, it now cruises much better than before and is a lot quieter and better built. This has not added to its 'fun factor', therefore if a Mk2 Mondeo wasn't 'as fun' as a 5 Series, neither is a Mk4 in theory. Luckily I've had a Mk4 Mondeo for the weekend so was able to confirm this theory, just as I've driven several E60's for reasonable periods of time.
I am fairly sure he has owned neither.
Both cars have moved on but the gap between the 5 series and the Mondeo is still the same. The 5 series is easily better than the Mondeo and as you know I am a bit of a rabid Ford fanboy.
ORLY?Maybe not but hes owned closer than you have. I think we can all say that Fox knows more than his fair share about the cars in question.
And the Legacy, oh please don't ignore it!!!!!I think that this argument has AIDS and that the OP should test drive a 530d & an E320CDI.
The other cars are pish.
ORLY?
I have owned both!
Jamoor, your credibility drops when you claim to own cars that your dad owns...
Nope, I don't think one is more "fun" than the other. Both are relatively boring saloons.[TW]Fox;13846020 said:Well your Dad has, but irrespective, what exactly is your point, that a Mondeo TDCi is more fun to drive than a 530d Sport?
It also drops a bit more when he tried to put a Subaru in the same league as a Merc or a BMW.
Have you driven one?
I love all this armchair test drivery. it also seems to match all of his criteria and the Subaru certainly drives better than all the cars suggested so far.
Don't need to drive one to know that it is in a league below the BMW or a Merc. The Legacy is a superb buy further down the depreciation curve, spending £15k on one is nuts.
Lots to go wrong on the Diesels.Booyaka,
thanks you seem to be in the same boat, although i do need the practicality of a hatchback/estate
i cant find any E320CDIs in my price range for less then 40K miles.
I'll look in to the subaru, may not spend the full 15K on one but i'll have a look
it seems that its 80% BMW and 20% the rest!
Fox, Booyaka et al, what are the running costs of the beemers? i always thought the bmw was the sort of car you didnt need to spend money maintaining (other then the obvious wear and tear) as it maintained itself?
A league in what way exactly?
Have you actually driven any cars other than that crappy fiesta in your sig?
But you seem to sit there saying this car is great and that car isn't when you actually havent driven them or any other cars, what on earth do you form your opinions on?Ah yes, the old failsafe. I'm losing an argument so I will call your car crap because I can't construct any better argument. What I drive has nothing to do with this.
It may drive as good but it will never be as well built, refined and as comfortable as the German equivalent add to that the naff looking dash and poor depreciation. When the guy comes to sell it the Subaru will be worth half as much as the BMW.
Just look a bit further up, you are slating and praising cars you've never sat in or drove.
