Hello.Ok Im thinking of upgrading my GPU from a 3850HD 512mb.Now the thing is my CPU is a OCZ Stealth XStream 600W PSU - SLI Ready but it only has 18amps on the 12v rail.I recently had a 8800GTS in my sysyem for a couple of days and that was ok,BUT it only has a single power connector where as the GTX have 2 connectors. So will the PSU handle a GTX or any GPU needing 2 power connectors.Oh my system has an C2D 2180 clocked at 3ghz,2 HD's and DVD rewriter.Cheers

What GPU would you guys recommend I recently got my self a 42" Full HD set and gaming at 1080p looks SWEEEET.So a card that can handle that res is obviously a must.I have about £120 to play with maybe slightly more for the right card and it HAS to be NVidia.

currently on special offer XFX GeForce GTX 260 "Core 216 55nm" £149.99.

if you can't afford to get it at the moment theres an EVGA GeForce GTX 260 for £144.

That's very odd as I had the exact same PSU and it had 2 x 6pin PCIe connectors and was running my 1Gb 4870 just fine - the only reason I swapped it out was for a bigger, quieter supply to be more future proof.

No sorry my PSU does have 2 6 pin connectors I was meaning that the GTS only requires 1 and the GTX requires 2.I was just asking wether or not the PSU is good for the latest and greatest GPU's.

I heard that the XFX's have the fan speed stuck at 100% all the time,is that correct?

How long are those cards.I had a 8800Ultra in my setup for a bit and I just managed to fit it in there.

Not heard about the fans speed tbh.

if you can fit an ultra in the case can't see the 260 being a problem.

no reason the psu shouldnt be able to cope with a single card, for crossfire/sli it might depend what else you have in it.

Im waiting on a refund from an e-bay member(bought a 8800GTX in excellent condition NOT)my 3rd NVidia card from the bay in 2 weeks so Im thinking I may aswell get a new one and hopefully save the hassle.I may go for the XFX 260.Is there a big difference between the 260 and the 250?

I think the 250 is the G92 core, so another attempt at selling the 8800gt. 260 should walk over it. That said, there G92 core was and is awesome. What resolution are you gaming at?

For the question, I think the 600W ocz should run the 260 with no effort whatsoever. I asked ocz support whether I could run an 8800gt, 280gtx, 9600gso and overclocked quad core [on an 800W model] and was told it wouldn't even break a sweat. 600W is a mad amount of power for a pc, you'll be fine.

1920x1080 res my 3850HD seems to run pretty good at the 1080 res but I think its time for a change.Iv had this card about a year and a half

I run 4 9800GT's and a Q6600 on a 520W PSU, some ppl are a bit mad about PSU's

However if I was running 4 GTX260s I'd get a 850W PSU :)

No the 260, 275, 280, 285 and 295 are different cores, new generation.

I would have said when jumping to the new gen that it mapped out like this:

8800GT - GTX 260
8800GTS - GTX 275
8800GTX - GTX 280
8800Ultra - GTX 285
8800GX2 - GTX 295

But then Nvidia muddied the waters by keeping the 8800's and renaming them to the 9800's and then renaming them again the the GTS250

So now its just mad

So I could maybe get a second hand 8800GTX on the bay for £80 are you saying that it would be on a par at least with a GTX 280?

No it's a lot slower, what biffa was showing, is how the Nvidia naming system now corresponds to the speed of the new cards in comparison to the old naming system.
