How would i go about hiring a mini cooper s?

How often would they need replacing? I don't drive that much to be honest, I live 5 mins drive away from the uni and 3/4 mins drive away from work.

I'll drive 30/40 miles occasionally but nothing excessive.

I just really enjoy driving :)

Probably wouldn't be too much of an issue but it'd definitely be advisable to stash away some cash just in case something goes wrong in the near future. The old shape Cooper S is quite thirsty too if I remember.

R53 is thirsty, and reliability isn't it's best point. I'd imagine you'd feel the fuel economy doing short trips all the time. Tyres are about £120 a corner.

Coming from a 1.25 Fez, a Cooper would be a nice upgrade. If after a year you want more power and think you can handle the running costs then sell the Cooper and buy a Cooper S. Mini's hold their value well so depreciation won't be a massive issue.

Good lord, that's hideous.

naaa it's win :D

I hated it initially :)

This is my R53 Chilli Red Mini Cooper S with Chilli (17s, Xenons etc etc)

Cybershot has made most of the main points with mantainence etc.. but on the upshot the noise these things make are fantastic. Thirsty as well (Only getting about 28mpg)

I certainly wouldn't buy one for such short journeys either.

That looks ace. Have to say I was never a fan of the red ones but when the sun comes out and it's clean/polished they look stunning.

Shame you didn't make this thread a few months ago Gustov :P

I had a Mini Cooper S JCW and would have been happy to take you for a spin as you live right near me. I did have a Cooper S before the JCW and both are great fun. Sold my car to buy a house though but i am planning on getting another one when i can comfortably afford it.

They are great fun cars but you must remember to make sure you can afford the running costs. For example my clutch bearings wanted replacing and the dealer wanted £1000 to replace them, an indy £600:o

I turn up in a VX220 Turbo, hasnt made a lot of diffrence to me :p

you look 12! The fifteen year old infront of you got in a club last night, but you got ID'd ;) :p

In the last month ive test driven a 335i Msport Coupe, a brand new mx5 2.0i and a mk2 mx5 1.8iS. The 335i he came out with me, but both MX5's he through the keys at me and said bring ti back when you've had enough (2 different dealerships too).

I'm 20 and turn up in an old beemer. I've found it far easier to get a test drive since the recession, the salesman are bored! :p

Although I managed to get a salesmen to take me out in an Elise 111R for 40 minutes when I was 18, and i turned up in a bloomin W reg mondeo! :p

The only place ive ever had trouble getting a test drive was one particular bmw garage (Williams in Rochdale, they're all arses there anyway, even my gf's dad had trouble getting a test drive when he had 25k sat on his card ready to buy an AUC 330i)

Other than that no one has ever refused me, and my list is getting longer now! Obviously a few 330is, including coupes, Civic Type R (new shape), RX8 Prodrive, S2000, BMW 335i, Elise 111R, Focus ST (vanilla), Focus ST wolfrace 290, MX5 x2, and a few more ive forgotten.

The elise is the only remotely exotic one i suppose, but bar the mx5s and 335i i was only 18/19 at the time with a W reg mondeo.

Tom.

To be honest scoring a drive in an S won't be that hard, i'm 20 but I had to have the salesman along!

I've had my S since 2002, still love it. Mines Dark Silver (grey) with matt black TD pro race 1 wheels. JCW carbon fibre scoop and mirrors.

I dream of getting 28mpg I see 22-23 unless I'm on the m/way.

the age of car you are looking at will be out of the TLC free servicing period unless it has been extended, servicing them isn't cheap. I'm starting to get odd things going wrong on mine, new radiator, new brake caliper etc. I've been able to do the work myself so it hasn't been too expensive.

the engines are generaly bomb proof, and the r53 (supercharged) S has lots of scope for tuning on a budget.

My front tyres last 10K the rears twice that.
