Thailand - State of Emergency

I'm going in June, I hope they don't block the airport. I should get cancellation insurance. Anyone have their insurance already, had any problems?

I was in Bangkok when the 2006 trouble started, tanks on the streets, etc

The Thais never bothered with the tourists and most things went on as usual apart from vehicles being bomb checked at hotels.

Taken at Siam Paragon for those who are familiar with BKK.

TV station back on air! It seems the reds now have two tanks and two APC's, not much resistance from army or police. Police marching on government house armed with tear gas at the moment. Reports of shootings by police/army on red shirts and claims that the Thai TV channels are being censored.

This link may be of interest:- http://www.manager.co.th/home/news1/550k.html It's all in Thai though.

That clip is from ASTV which is owned and run by Sondhi who is behind the yellow shirts and has a personal grudge against Thaksin who refused to help him avoid a $100m fine.

This "red shirt" campaign is very clearly against the aristocratic powers behind the throne who have done everything they can bothe legal and illegal to stop any possibility of the "people" having any say in politics.

I am just glad I got out of there in the nick of time. Today hasn't been great in Thailand and it really is quite shocking how things can just change so quick to the extent in which some of the areas are in at the moment. I know a guy who just arrived in Thailand last week and he says its really messing up his holiday. He's in pattaya at the moment and is trying to get out of there and head for some of the islands.
