You should try some of the mods, they make quite a difference.
Why should you have to mod a game to get it to work ?
Well I dont, mine works without the mods.
Then again, all of the Total War games have always been best with mods. The DLV and Stainless Steel mods truly made M2TW, same with Rome Total War. The mods have always made the TW series far far better than the vanilla game, though that applies to a lot of games I suppose.

Theres not really all that much in the manual to be honest, did you try that guide I mentioned a few pages back.
Mind you, you might want to try and find your manual as it has the cd key on the back of it. You never know if you might need that cdkey again.
Oh !! I nearly forgot, if you still want the proper manual, just start up your steam..click on the empire total war entry in your games list and click on Properties. There is a link there to a download of the pdf of the manual

just play the independence campaign bit, it starts you off nice and basic and builds it up from the ground for you, if you don't get it after that it probably isn't worth playing.
i was completely lost when i first started this game (i didn't think i would be coming from M2TW, RTW etc) but i didn't have the foggiest, after playing the road to independence campaign the only thing i still need to work on is naval engagements.
in other news: i guess i'm not going to be able to continue my current campaign until they release another patch
and i was doing quite well too 
Got a CTD last night, the only one so far!
Other than that, I'm bored now. Re-started a game with intentions to play it properly, but a bit of mismanagement and messing about and I had a rebellion which I backed... Stormed London and became a republic. Scotland revolted, and won, as did Ireland. Its exactly how Britain should be
I've got to get a mod so I can play Scotland now I've seen they are a minor nation after successful rebellion! I know its 'only a game' but this could have been historically a lot more accurate, ie 1700-1707.

Yeah there is a mod which allows you to play as all the nations including the minor ones. Even the Pirates

Has any one had problems with grouped artillery units?
For example: In one of my armies I have 4 howitzers grouped as a unit. This is ok until I want to move them. If I click the mount button they begin to team up with their horses etc, then they ignore the command, dis-mount and continue to fire.
Its driving me nuts!!!

No i havn't had that problem Cat my artillery is one of the better unit types right now as they are working better then at release. Don't know if one of the newer patches has fixed something but now my howitzers are a lot more accurate then they used to be.
As soon as the campaign map came up I didn't think i'd enjoy it as much as Medieval; the game hasn't been refined at all. The thing that bugged me most was when you clicked end turn and you had to sit for about 2minutes watching other peoples ships move about the map. And when you click end turn every couple of minutes the time soon adds up and it gets tedious... Going to revert back to Medieval myself.
Why not just turn off show AI moves? That way you wont have to sit there for about 2minutes watching other peoples ships move
well you can turn off show AI moves but it's a choice of having something to watch for 3 minutes or not to be honest..
Indeed, though if you turn off show AI moves the AI turns are considerably faster. (though I leave them turned on myself as it doesnt bother me and the turns dont take too long anyway)
gah whenever I finish a seige i get a crash to desktop!
I've found that when you open the saved game, if you resave right away and then reload from the new save. It stops the crashing sometimes if your lucky. Give it a try and see if it works
Anyone know when the next offical patch is out?, as its been a few weeks since the last one, and I really need to finish conquering the rest of Europe on my long comapaign!
