Sky/virgin/BT are all 12month regardless.I don't see mention of the contract.

its a year contract, you cant cancel it without paying your way out.
you sign a contract to pay the bills for a set period of time for £xxx a month, so, you pay that money every month regardless of usage!
Because you still live there and I assume use the services.Eh?
I am in the place i rent while away maybe 2 or 3 nights a week, i still pay the full monthly rent though. why shouldnt i?
Because you still live there and I assume use the services.
Oh, and Eh's for 'orses.
technically they didn't sign the contract - the OP did
the only thing they've signed is the agreement with the landlord presumably
IMO the fair thing to do is pay for what you use
I certainly won't start asking people to sign contracts, seems a little hostile between friends.
how do you pay for what you use when it comes to TV watching and broadband?

It's a 12month contract, everyone knew they would not be in the house for 12months and as such knew they would be paying whilst not there. It is standard in uni houses.by doing exactly that - paying for what you use
by not paying for broadband if you've not got a computer - you just watch TV so you just pay for your share of the "TV" portion of the bill - virign media does break it down on the bill not sure about sky
by not paying for either if you're not living there anymore due to having moved out
by paying yourself for anything extra - supposing one guy watches a porno and it gets added on the bill - do they all split the cost? of course they don't - they pay for what they use
supposing someone adds sky sports because he is a football fan & no one else is interests in football - do they split the extra cost of sky sports 6 ways? erm no - they pay for what they use
It depends on the the people really. If she's a girly girl then you'll have no chance. No matter how tidy you think you are it wont be enough. On the other hand if she's 'one of the lads' then it'll be ok. When there are more than a couple of people it's always a good idea to have some kind of agreement. There likely will be someone who is bad with money or lazy with cleaning for example so it's always good to speak to each other as a group as soon as something isn't right.likwid, you've got me worried lol. I'm moving in with 3 lads and a girl in my second year of uni. We all get along really well so hope it doesn't turn out like that. I certainly won't start asking people to sign contracts, seems a little hostile between friends.
Grow up. We're talking about months not a week.So the last week that I wasn't here I shouldnt pay?
What rubbish.

Not as hostile as falling out over money. Stick it down on a bit of paper, then none of you get lumped with owing the cash.

Ok. If it's a 12 months contract that the girls agreed to pay then they should pay up.It's a 12month contract, everyone knew they would not be in the house for 12months and as such knew they would be paying whilst not there. It is standard in uni houses.
umm, the additionals are easy. but virgin nor sky will say 'you watched 23 hours of tv, then someone else watched 5, but together 3 of you watched 56 hours'.
Broadband - how do you say 'you used 5gb this month, you pay £x' or whatever?
You are being silly.
You have 2 options, pay every month regardless of usage OR pay a set percentage of the months cost between the users.
2nd option is stupid because if no one uses it, who pays?
