Been ID for buying Alcohol at 26

Yeah because ruining the sales assistant's day, even when it's not them who made the rule up but are simply enforcing it, makes you a really big man.

You don't have a right to walk into a pub/shop and get served, it's up to the shop. And the shop workers most definately don't have to put up with sadacts who make mountain's out of molehills.

Nonsense. Of course the shop or pub doesn't have to serve me but the assistant is the contact point with the customer, the real sad fact is that the cowards behind the legislation are the ones that have put the worker in that situation not me.

Underage drinking is getting worse in this country, it is certainly much worse than when I wasn't old enough to drink without some spotty oik, half my age, asking me if I am old enough to do so. The system we have at the moment is clearly not working, the main reason is that they are not enforcing the current laws adequately, all they are doing is pushing the responsibility onto people that have no appropriate training, pay or desire to do so. Instead of effective policing we rely on a teenage girl reading the message given to her by the till or a big lummox at the door of a pub that thinks they are rambo put there to clean up the streets because they have gone on a wholly inadequate training course set up by the very people that cannot be bothered to their jobs in the first place. It is madness and getting worse.

Get annoyed at me for asking you for id and you're not getting any, you want alcohol or tobacco, be nice or go elsewhere.

I was told I had to be 25 to buy tobacco once (which was for my dad anyway) even though I had ID on me and I'm 22. They wouldn't sell it to me "nah sorry love you need to be 25 or older". Anyway, I just went and got it somewhere else but it was pretty funny.

i got half IDed for tobacco the other day, guy said "are you 18" i assumed he wanted some ID so said yes and went to reach for my ID from my wallet and he just says "dont worry i believe you" .....well why ask then? :p

It's pretty simple, once ID has been requested they aren't likely to suddenly be swayed by your protestations so you might as well give it up and just go get the ID.

Odd you should say that. I'm in my mid 20s, have been ided twice in the last year, both times I've had no ID and both times they've still served me.

Exactly how we play it, Be nice or **** off.

The Policy in our shop is If Any member of staff has asked for I.D. then All other members back them & Alcohol will Not be served until I.D. is shown whether the other members thinks they are old enough or not.
Getting Larey will just get you Perma Banned. :D

But is it the person being asked for ID that isn't nice?

It might be quite insulting to be told you look 15 when you are 25.

I know it is the law and shop assistants have no choice but sometimes they take the pee.

I'd like to think that our staff (Me included) are very polite & Humble when asking for I.D & hope that the Public understand our predicament & don't hold it against us. But then there are so many immature **** holes about it's hit & miss.

I got asked for id in a pub the other week by the same barman that just served my younger brother a minute before me, I'm 27 and my brother is 24. I take it as a compliment, I just hope I still look young when I'm approaching 40.

Just doing their job...would you want to run the risk of a £5000 fine? Or the losing your job?

Take it as a compliment ;) wish I got asked for ID...I haven't been asked for ID since I was 17 lol  25 atm
