Been ID for buying Alcohol at 26

lol a couple things I remembered. Somebody on the forum got carded for buying cheese with the words "for adults only" on it. In poundland their tills will bring up the age challenge thing for anything dodgy... but irish cream chocolates lmao come your pulling my leg! how can those make a youngster drunk? unless somebody has actually tried it? lol

Im half expecting somebody somewhere will get carded for buying wine gums one day, if that day comes then this country has really gone nuts.

If ever I am asked for ID I get real stroppy now, I even got asked when entering a pub, I repeat, I am 40! I urge you all to do the same.

Yeah because ruining the sales assistant's day, even when it's not them who made the rule up but are simply enforcing it, makes you a really big man.

You don't have a right to walk into a pub/shop and get served, it's up to the shop. And the shop workers most definately don't have to put up with sadacts who make mountain's out of molehills.

Right but how about this right. I am 16 and have NEVER been IDd and i cant even count the amount of times i have been served in pubs or clubs. Absolutley crazy idon't even know how i get away with it myself in all honesty. When i say clubs they are the ones more outside the city centre really

Well at 16 I don't see a problem personally, perfectly acceptable age to drink, perhaps move to a country like mine where it's legal to buy alcohol from 16 if you ever get any problems getting yourself some beers:D.

Personally i don't get about the National ID thing, if you have a driving licence then the details are already on a database. I already have an ID card from Hong Kong (uber fast immigration clearance), and i don't really see what the fuss is about.

But that's a whole other topic !

The police in HK often do random checks asking people for ID, everyone carries or should be carrying ID at all times. I don't see any problem with that.

If this happened in the UK a lot of people will do their usual stuff and complain.

I didn't think they asked are you 25 anymore.

When I last worked in spar they changed it to "what age are you?" as any official underage check by the police must not lie when questioned about their age. Therefore you know striaght away they are too young, and for the purposes of challenge 25 if they say something below 25 you can then ask for id as well.

Absolutely right. If you have a problem with a shop's policy, take it up with the policymaker (or at least someone senior). WTF can whoever is behind the till do except say 'yes sir, thankyou sir, goodbye sir'? If they break the policy they risk getting sacked, or fined, or both.

and the problem is?
show your ID and get on with life.
It's there for a reason, to protect the shop from prosecution.

16-21 can be hard to identify.

Fixed

Whats all this 3 strikes, so you are telling me a council will shut down a multimillion pound supermarket because it sold alcohol to some underage kids, :D

.

No but they can and will revoke alcohol licenses as well as large fines. It's not just the company the individual worker can get fined thousands as well.

Fact is a supermarket doesn't need its alcohol licence because they sell it for a loss to get people in, 3 for £20 offers, bottle of baileys for £5 etc.

They just roll it off the wagon on a pallet and on to the shop floor.

what are you talking about. they get people in and as such make a lot more money and it's not just the supermarket it's the people behind the till who get fined as well.

I do wonder how some pubs get away with it. There's a place I end up at on a fair few friday nights where literally 80% of the people there are under 18...how on earth do they not get fined to hell and back?

Exactly the same mate. If all the younger lot get in first then they would prefer risking it and getting the trade than having no sales.

It's to protect against prosecution, huge fines and their license. Both company and worker.

LOL yeah and that. I work in a shop it only changed to 25 about 4-5 months ago.

Spars arn't multi million pound supermarkets. They're privately owned shops using the name spar and using the spar wholesalers for groceries.

They won't close the shop but they will revoke their license and a lot of the spars (near me anyway) are really glorified off licences. They make very little profit outside alcohol so if they lose their licence the company running the shop will close the store.

What's with places not accepting provisional driving licenses now?!

I haven't had it accepted at any of the supermarkets in the past month, they say it NEEDS to be a passport. Bit of an arse that. But I can live without buying alcohol, just get a friend to buy my stuff who is fortunate to have a passport. I'm not paying a silly amount for a book that I won't be using to go on holiday any time soon.
